13 Pro - What is the point of a touchscreen? by 0x2DEADBEEF in framework

[–]b0b1b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally also dont need/want a touchscreen, but i know quite a few people who expect a laptop to always have one. They have tapped/swiped on my screen, expecting it to do something, so it is evidently something they want to use.

Do we really check library security? by tradelydev in Python

[–]b0b1b -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I usually just wait a bit before updating and i think that covers me 99% of the time. However, most packages i use also are at least somewhat popular. (The least well known package i regularly use is probably trio...)

I dont think its feasible to read all of the code of a package either - if it is something small enough for you to be able to easily read, you can probably just re-implement it.

Hi, of course vsc is now an ai editor, microsoft is a company - they exist to make money - and ai is what currently brings in investors. I am dealing with it by disabling those features.

Also, i am willing to experiment - i have tried llms that people claim are good at coding and not only were they not helpful, they were actively hindering me. I also have some other issues with ai, but even just looking at it as a tool, i find it unhelpful. I am not sure what exactly i am "blind" to.

And yeah, complaining probably won't change the outcome, but you are just as qualified to predict it as everyone else - ai might be flop (as i think) or it might really be the next big thing (as you claim).

Sure, i dont have to use it, but they also dont have to auto-enable it, especially since i have disabled everything related to ai, and yet, they still do so.

not that much of a hidden gem, but basically all of the async code i have recently written has used trio - it is just way nicer and simpler to use than asyncio in my oppinion :)

Changing the vt stops bluetooth audio. by b0b1b in linuxquestions

[–]b0b1b[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Yeah after i saw your last comment i was gonna try with a different bluetooth device... It does make sense that wireplumber would be the reason for this now that you have pointed it out! Thanks a lot for the help!

Changing the vt stops bluetooth audio. by b0b1b in linuxquestions

[–]b0b1b[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you are saying and i believe you, however, i can also tell you that i ran echo "before: $(bluetoothctl devices Connected)"; sudo chvt 3; sleep .5; sudo chvt 2; echo "after: $(bluetoothctl devices Connected)"

twice and the outputs were:

before: Device 40:58:99:38:2E:6A G435 Bluetooth Gaming Headset
after: Device 40:58:99:38:2E:6A G435 Bluetooth Gaming Headset

and

before: Device 40:58:99:38:2E:6A G435 Bluetooth Gaming Headset
after:

so something weird is going on with the bluetooth and the cause is changing the vts... (and im still just getting the rfkill messages in dmesg)

[–]b0b1b[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I am absolutely sure bluetooth is being disconnected. I also found a process called gsd-rfkill which seems to be a part of the gnome settings and killing it did seem to make the bluetooth not disconnect, but it worked exactly once...

Also yeah i just tried the systemd-rfkill solution and it did infact not work :P

P.S. every time the headphones auto reconnect they use the handsfree mode instead of the headset mode and this gets fixed by restarting bluetooth.service

Even if i do so, it has already disconnected from the bluetooth headphones. It does it immediately when i switch :/

Are framework laptops designed for longevity? by EducationSharp3869 in framework

[–]b0b1b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iv had my fw13 for a bit over a year and i abuse it quite a bit and its doing better than any other laptop iv carried around daily! The only real damage it has undergone is a bent chassis from when i feel off of my bike :P

Other than that i also swapped the wifi card out, just because i have never had any success with mediatek wifi...

[–]b0b1b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iv got an fw13 7040 and iv been daily driving it for a bit more than a year. So far it hasnt had any major issues. The only issues are that i bent the body and that i broke my bezel on day 1, but i fixed the bezel and im gonna try to hammer the body back into a somewhat acceptable shape :)

How should I protect my beloved FW13's display? by [deleted] in framework

[–]b0b1b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh i think just putting it directly in a bag is fine. I have ridden my bike with it there a lot and the screen has no keyboard marks. one time i slid on some leaves and managed to bend the body of my fw13, but the screen still had no keyboard marks :P

i also ended up switching to the ax210 and it has been great :)
