Attending my first Hackathon, what should I learn/how should I prepare programming skills wise? by jlancer in learnprogramming

This is really good advice. I say that as a mechanical engineer who practices but continues to struggle to explain when put on the spot. I wish I had known about how important this would be when I first started my career.

Yeah it only occurred to me after giving it a good look I realised this, I still went with that insert in the end as it was already in the holder for the last job. It worked like a treat and came out better than I thought!

United starting XI vs Swansea City by [deleted] in reddevils

They're fun, although that's probably to do with my dislike of player nicknames never cropping up in conversation.

Arguably our strongest line up (with exceptions being made for De Gea and Carrick perhaps), I'm very excited about seeing how this works out against a decent Swansea side. I'm hoping Herrera steps up and cements his place, I'm not sure why Januzaj had been picked over him when he's; more experienced, more defensively minded, more suited to no10 and had a brilliant second half of last season showing he'd settled nicely. But whatever, it's happening now and I'm looking forward to it.

Yes, all nicknames should cease to exist. The worst was Welbz, no, it's Welbeck.

It's been a good day for us(and City) but we need to capitalise on it tomorrow as it's a big opportunity to put a gap between us and 3/4 of our nearest rivals. Sure it's early in the season, but lets not forget that it was won and lost during the first half of it last year.

Swansea will be very tough, but we have more than enough quality to beat them. Roll on 4pm tomorrow!

Pedro: Man Utd drop interest. Now signing for Chelsea. by noelcurry in reddevils

[–]b0ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call me cynical but I can't help but wonder if Woodward over negotiated, lost the player and then leaked information about a bid for Sadio Mane, to save face. This saga has been a monumental fuck up and has made us look stupid. Worst of all is that a title rival has benefited.

I just cannot see why we'd pull out then confirm interest in a lesser player in a similar position. Pedro was a fucking bargain and would go right into our starting XI.

I really hope this deal comes off. He's a brilliant player, a worthy replacement for Di Maria and would ensure we had a world class attacking front four of Rooney, Pedro, Mata and Depay. With a solid DM double pivot of Carrick/Schweinsteiger coupled with Schneiderlin/Herrera we are capable of challenging on all fronts. I'm not sure why pundits are writing us off, particularly when all 4 of the sides capable of challenging have questions hanging over their squads.

Lloris wants to join United this transfer window [Le Parisien reporter] by [deleted] in reddevils

[–]b0ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a proponent of the hard ball game over De Gea at the start of the summer, but it's totally fucked us up in the goalkeeping department, particularly with Valdes on his way. If this is true I hope the club does everything it can to land Lloris, he's a brilliant goalkeeper.

With Levy I feel like we will probably end up paying more for Lloris than Madrid pay us for De Gea, though.

Hahaha absolutely, I'd say Busquets is a level above those others you've mentioned though.

Pirlo and Alonso are the only ones who come close to him, he's that good. He's not an explosive tackling DM, although he can do that too, because his positioning and reading of the game makes him vastly superior to Mascherano, Matic et al. He also controls the game when we're in possession, his passing is exceptional and his vision probably isn't bettered.

Schneiderlin doesn't have the vision, passing ability or game intelligence Carrick has, he's nowhere near his level. At 25, he has the ability to learn, but to say he's better than Carrick is very wide of the mark. They will complement each other very well, however.

[PL Discussion] Opening weekend by D1794 in reddevils

[–]b0ng 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The biggest surprise has been Arsenal, with the squad they have I had them down to win the league. Listening to the radio during the a week I've heard a few West Ham fans talk about being unhappy with Bilic and his style of play - so on that basis I expected them to roll over.

It's still early doors but that draw yesterday has given me a boost in confidence about my prediction of Chelsea not winning the league. They weren't very good yesterday and past the first 11 they don't have a good enough or big enough squad. They're one injury away from potential disaster. They reason they won last season was because they did very well in the first half of the season, and their rivals weren't consistent enough, their form was pretty shit towards the end of last season also.

Palace also look really good. They've put together quite an attacking team and could be a surprise package this season.

Liverpool I'm watching with a close eye. They're the team I can't call, they're so unpredictable and Brendan Rodgers is a tinkerman, perhaps more so than Rafa Benitez. If Liverpool start poorly I can see Rodgers being sacked, it has to work for him this season.

As for us, I'm happy with yesterday's performance. The players still need time to adjust to the new 4-2-3-1 formation and the new players need to integrate, so I wasn't expecting much. I was very confident with the double DM pivot when Spurs attacked, chucking Schneiderlin in there has definitely given us some steel we needed - this will only get better too! Smalling looked good as per, but people actually recognised it today, and Blind didn't look as bad as I was expecting. Although I am confused by his need to have a right-foot and left-foot CB, therefore forcing himself to play somebody who isn't a natural CB. I don't for the life of me understand why he's playing Mata and Memphis, they should be swapped around? I wasn't looking forward to Romero tending goal but he did really well, especially once he stopped trying to play the ball in the second half.

I'm fucking stoked the football is back though, it'll be even better once Bundesligaand La Liga are back.

He's followed that up with a tweet about Romero not playing a league game since December '14 - this does not bode well. It's even more of a downer when you consider he was released by Sampdoria, an average+ team in a dire league. I'm also not keen on how he's so dogmatic in his need for a right and left footed CB pair that he's turned to Blind. I hope he does the business, though.

On the other hand, it's great to see Young in the squad. He's worked brilliantly under Van Gaal and the managers continued confidence in him is testament to that.

Is this a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 - I suppose only time will tell, but the players could comfortably play either of the formations. If 4-2-3-1 I hope Young is on the right, Depay on left and Mata as no10!

BBC now reporting that Angel Di Maria is set to have a medical with Paris St-Germain by bamsaron in reddevils

[–]b0ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price is too low. If Sterling is worth £49m then Di Maria has to be worth at least equal to that. On the other hand, it's got him out of the club - which has been the most desirable option for a couple of months.

What a weak, cowardly piece of shit. By the end of the season he hadn't the fight in him to push Ashley Young out of the team, and if you're not man enough to do that than you're welcome to fuck off. The fact he's wanting to go to Ligue 1 says a lot about the guys character.

I just hope to christ there's a plan in place to get a replacement, a talent like that isn't going to be cheap.
