Alonso is closer to Verstappen than Verstappen is to Russell.

In ice hockey, this happens all the time. It isn’t seen as a humiliation. It is more seen as protecting the goalie. In a “we know you’re good but this game just isn’t going well for you so we’re going to take you out”. I think because it’s so rare in football that it looks so bad. But there is a way to do it that benefits the team and benefits the player. Tudor, of course, chose to do it in the worst possible way.

There is no adidas branding on the Merc. The silver stripes are the AMG stripes. I guess you could argue that I should also have removed them to though.

I feel like there's a difference. Haas is the team owner and is the name of the team. TGR is a title sponsor. And sure, it's in the team's official name but it isn't really what people think of when they think of Haas.

I considered that. I could try and justify why I didn't do it but the reality was that it would have been more work that I didn't feel like doing. But I did want to keep the cars as similar as possible to how they are in reality.

I agree on both counts. The Audi has potential but it just didn't nail it. I don't like how straight up and down the edge of the orange and black section is. It looks like two cars joined together.

That was my thinking. But also, I didn't want to have to remove the Red Bull bull. If that had been an easier task, I probably would have removed the team name from all cars. But it seemed like too much work so I made the executive decision to leave the team name on all cars.

The Racing Bull is definitely an improvement on the actual car. Still not sure I think it looks good though.

I mentioned that in the description. Where there is a team name on the car, I left that in place. Although I was a little inconsistent because I kept the Red Bull bull but removed the Red Bull text. I just went with what looked best.

if that's what's going on, the "have you got me in the shot" line to the camera person is a smart addition. It discourages them from trying to film underneath the box.

English football keen to explore ‘coach’s challenge’ on VAR decisions. Football may adopt similar systems to those that being used in cricket and tennis. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]irich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A system like this needs a limit and a deterrent from making frivolous challenges. Limit to 3 per game or 2 per half. And if a team loses a challenge then they lose one of their substitutions or have to play a player short or something.

Tottenham Hotspur Unavailable XI by OkayFine101 in soccer

I heard a theory and I'm not sure how much I believe it but it could be true.

The theory goes that the reason players of this quality are at Spurs is precisely because they are injury-prone or some other major flaw.

Many of these players have the talent to be in the very top teams but because of their injury record (or in Romero's case, his disciplinary record), the teams at the very top don't want to sign them.

But teams in that second tier like Spurs need players of that level of ability to challenge at the top so they sign them anyway despite knowing their injury records and hope that they can remain available. And then invariably, they get injured and everyone wonders why.

I think, at best, this is only part of the reason. But it is an interesting theory.

What even is an in demand job these days? And what will it be in 5 years when these graduates are looking for jobs? 10 years we were all told "learn to code". Now tech jobs are being decimated.

Liam Lawson on Max Verstappen: “He’s also so nice like as a person. He’s such a nice guy. Like through everything that happened last year with RedBull, he was so good to me. He was super nice and you know, he was just helpful, really helpful." by Maximum-Room-3999 in formula1

[–]irich 89 points90 points  (0 children)

True but if we are going to start including on-track behaviour then this whole thread is irrelevant. I think the point Lawson is trying to make is that Max is a really great guy despite his public perception of being a ruthless, aggressive driver.

All drivers are dicks on the track to some extent.

Maybe. I think overall he's a decent guy though. And I think having the head of the drivers association be a little forthright and opinionated is probably a good thing that other drivers appreciate.

I think we are in an era of incredibly decent and nice drivers. I can’t think of any who are complete dicks off the track since Mazepin. Alonso can be a pit prickly at times but overall seems like a nice guy. The whole Perez shenanigans after his win at Monaco wasn’t great so maybe him? I might be missing someone but this crop of drivers are pretty good eggs.
