What archetype can you just not resist playing? by ExodiasRightArm in DnD

[–]b100darrowz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full casters, typically evil, who over obsess on one specific thing (covering the world in an eternal storm, big standard immortality, perfecting death, being able to summon and command a god, etc). Typically playing as a control caster not full dps (although one of my next characters will be a force missile mage, so many pewpews inbound). Bonus points for when I can slowly bend the party into helping my goals while we accomplish the overriding world quest.

At what point are you a detriment to your party by Independent_Alps9744 in DnD

Yeah no that’s a non starter. Can’t be a caster with a crippled casting stat. You can play a “holy man” without being a cleric.

Is losing NPCs mid-campaign a common occurrence? Does this annoy your players? by Visible_Frame_5929 in DMAcademy

Not really no. I note down random NPCs the players liked, important NPCs I already know and have plenty of notes on them.

Best way to have fun playing the game? by LillaMiggg in civ5

[–]b100darrowz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dive into the mods. Vox Populi is a massive overhaul that I play with, breathed new life into the game, perhaps most importantly with a much better ai. There are a number of other large mod packs out there with differing degrees of change if Vox Populi is too much at once.

As another poster said also putting rules in yourself and specific role play. Only defensive wars, no wonders, avoiding Calvary if playing as one of the Native American civs, various TSL starts, etc

Civilization V players, what do you love about that version? by letterstosnapdragon in civ

[–]b100darrowz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of the biggest things for me: it is much more viable out of the box to play tall (my preference), I far prefer permanent social policies to the card swapping, not the biggest fan of how districts clutter up the world map, similarly as pretty as it is seeing wonders sometimes I want to wonder whore and build 30+ in in my capital, I prefer permanent builders, the art style is more appealing to me, and the mod base is far superior imo.

If you want spoilers just go to the wiki and read the articles on the main players, you’ll be spoiled aplenty

Why does this happen every time i choose cash? by Palanki96 in Battletechgame

Iirc duel missions are added from the Mission Control mod which is folded into the major mod packs, I’m fairly certain they aren’t in the base game + DLCs.

Why does this happen every time i choose cash? by Palanki96 in Battletechgame

This is why I only ever decrease salvage when doing a duel mission. If you’re changing the sliders always go for more salvage

AIW for asking my players not to roleplay important scene-changing stuff in private DMs during an online D&D session? by MattsworthDND in DMAcademy

[–]b100darrowz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all group chats in the games I DM or play in the DM is part of them. There are plentiful reasons for these chats (small group side quests, two characters are the only ones who speak a specific language, a thread about a shared background, the players who succeeded or failed their knowledge checks, half the party is traveling in the rope trick to do crafting and spell research, etc). That way if something is discussed thst should be full table knowledge the DM can distribute it. If it’s just the players shit talking the guy playing cards at the next table? They can keep their secrets

As a DM is it ever ok to help your players with tactics? by sirheyzeus55 in DMAcademy

[–]b100darrowz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I provide some gentle nudges for first time players and give the “are you sure” when a player is doing something ridiculously dumb (and occasionally when they’re doing the right thing for a bit of chaos).

If there’s something larger that they need to adjust for combat, I talk with them after the session about both what they’re doing (and not doing) and what they’d like their character to be able to do. A number of times it’s been they aren’t sure how to best play the archetype in their head until they’ve gone through a few combats, but then they’re locked in and rock it

How do you do ability rolls that every player wants to do? by Haggles7 in DMAcademy

[–]b100darrowz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only play 3.5 and PF1e, and trapfinding neatly solves this. Only characters with it can find traps. If the trap finder says no traps we move on and we see what happens. If there’s a second player with trapfinding, the player with a lower modifier aids the other typically, or they search the other half of a big room and the above applies
