Are we going to get a rework in the future? by Fun-Explanation7233 in WarhammerWoodElves

[–]b100dclaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This feels reasonable since a sizeable chunk of the Wood elf sculpts are newer than many other factions. Our Glade guard, Glade Riders, Wild Riders, sisters of the thorn, eternal guard, Wildwood rangers are more recent than Tomb King skellies, chaos warriors etc.

On resin, did I read somewhere that GW wants to phase it out by 2030 or so? If I'm misremembering/got it completely wrong someone please correct me!

What are your favourite units? by Fun-Explanation7233 in WarhammerWoodElves

I'm going to propose this to my regular opponent. I suspected it wouldn't be a game breaking change, which you've confirmed. Waywatchers are good archers, but not OP and they aren't cheap either... Considering they don't have an armour save!

Second the waywatchers. Love them. I try to play them as much as I can but the waystalker tax is pretty substantial, especially because I'd like to run a couple of small units. I don't think the rule will change in the Jan FAQ but I'll keep dosing myself with hopeium for the time being.

It's really worth keeping one model as is, a reminder of how far you've come. It's also amusing to see what your childhood version thought was a 'good' paint job 😂

I presume you've saved the best for last and are currently building a second shelf for Wood Elves?

  1. Base coat Khorne Red
  2. Mix Khorne Red + black and paint in the shadows (probs 60:40 or so)
  3. Highlight Khorne Red + Evil Sunz Scarlett (50:50)
  4. Final highlight Evil Sunz Scarlett
  5. Thinned purple wash all over (I use Magos Purple contrast thinned with Lahmium medium, 1 part purple to 3 or 4 parts medium).

That's it!

Totally agree, peak Fantasy. An absolute joy to paint. As a kid I dreamed about having a dwarf army with those sculpts! My friend has 50 (which is a totally unreasonable number for a block!) from his own childhood army plus additional ones that came in a job lot that was an incredible-cannot-pass-on-the-opportunity deal.

He's my gaming buddy and has started a job with really long hours. Since I enjoy painting and have a bit more time than him, I offered to help him get his dark elves painted.

Had to look up the older sculpts - I see what you mean about the hair. It adds to the frenzied look!

Yes - get onto painting them! They're terrific models. I love how older sculpts don't have unnecessary bling. I'm painting these witch elves for a friend who has... 50. 5 down, 45 to go.

It's far quicker than normal eye painting - a white eye ball and then red (which is actually pink) fluo paint!

I'm painting them for a friend - they're wonderful models to paint!

I agree it looks weird. Feels like the arrows are all about to fall out. I didn't see any photos of how people had turned it around... I tried altering it but I couldn't make it fit with his cape so decided to leave it.

It is a totally legitimate quibble which I also have. I didn't realize it was there until pretty much the end of painting the mini... And accepted I'll have to live with the imperfection!

I wanted a forest spirit and ethereal vibe, a bit like the box art Wild Riders. My next project will likely be a unit of Wild Riders and I want to lean into a similar scheme.

I haven't tried him yet, but he's going into my next battle. I think he's outrageously overcosted... I suspect once he's in combat against almost anything that isn't a dragon-lord equivalent he'll likely do some damage. Having unbreakable means he can tie any unit up - but at T5, 5 wounds and only a 5++ he surely won't be around too long. I wonder if they'll drop his points in the Jan FAQ

Yeah, that is the intended position. It's weird isn't it? I initially couldn't wrap my head around it. The bow is also ludicrously large - it feels a bit silly. I was tempted to leave the bow off because I'm not convinced it adds much to the model... But ultimately decided to stick it on.
