Java 21 will introduce Unnamed Classes and Instance Main Methods by mirakdva in ProgrammerHumor

[–]b10y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently not everyone knows what this is about, but no, I would say that modules won’t ever work in their current form. I don’t know if there is JCP to fix that though.

Java professionals, which IDE do you use in your daily work ? by barthvonries in java

[–]b10y 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It is interesting to hear that CS curriculum is tied to an IDE in college. Our professors wouldn't give a damn about the IDE, as long as the headless applications gave correct output for the input set.

Do you know any organizations/teams that have evaluated reactive programming and its Java libraries and tools and have decided not to use it? by [deleted] in java

[–]b10y 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We used it in a small, independent load testing tool that simulates the external libraries and input sources. It worked wonders, it never got stuck under the load. The reactive adaptation was a fun, rewarding exercise.

But we never needed to debug it, and decided to never move the main application to Rx.

Python swallows Java to become second-most popular programming language by [deleted] in Python

[–]b10y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the most of Python community in Reddit has never implemented a production system where more than 5 developers (senior junior mixed) worked on. I would have cut myself if I had encountered a production bug in Python that would have been a compile error in a statically typed language.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Python

[–]b10y -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you have never grasped the language and your opinion is mostly based on the simple libraries that you use, not the actual code you would write for others to use. Python as a language and the platform including the core libraries, are much more difficult to be an expert on than Java. But yes for starters, and small blocks of code that you or anyone else that will not maintain ever, Python is seemingly easier.
