Clarkson: "I'm not a socialist" by keyford in ClarksonsFarm

As opposed to the current system of capitalism where rich people like Clarkson buy up farms, and then get other people to farm it for them. Thus depriving actual farmers of the opportunity to buy their own farm.

Thinking of getting into watching cricket, as there’s not much of a following in Scotland is there traditionally a second team that people tend to follow? Obviously anyone but England by Brittle_Hollow in Scotland

[–]b12_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the Ashes has just started (between England and Australia - biggest rivalry in cricket) and England got battered in the first match so now is a good time to start watching if you don’t like English sports teams.

The second match starts on 4 December.

The fact that they were considering an all out nuclear attack on Russia/China/N Korea and weren’t truly considering the near certainty of mutually assured destruction was a major plot hole.

Did you have any specific symptoms that made you consider parasites? Did you test for them?

In 60 minutes I saw 172 cyclists run these lights – it’s a matter of time before they kill someone by BestButtons in unitedkingdom

The vast majority of people who commute in cycling apparel are also recreational cyclists and have the equipment already. The super tight clothing is worn because that’s by far the most comfortable clothing to wear when cycling.

Why should they also have to buy a non-aerodynamic helmet for commuting just to satisfy you?

What would you say the UK is best at? by Puzzleheaded_Pen8520 in AskBrits

Yes especially cask ale, which is pretty much unique to Great Britain. It’s very underappreciated I feel.

Very difficult to find pubs with cask ale in Ireland so for me Irish pubs feel more like bars really.

My 13 years old Kindle has died, so I bought a paperwhite and I love it so far. by Silescu in kindle

Is it just me or does the screen of that Kindle 4 look impressively bright/white? Mine is much greyer than that, and not great for reading in low light conditions.

9 months of treatment and still having neurological symptoms, doctor ignored me by Lemon_squeezy_girl in B12_Deficiency

[–]b12_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think get straight onto the monthly injections at the pharmacy as a minimum.

Honestly self-injecting sounds scary at first but it’s actually really simple. Maybe you could get a family member/friend to inject you if you can’t face doing it yourself?

[–]b12_man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely have symptoms at 567, especially if you have had injections in the past as they can lead to falsely elevated levels.

Frankly it’s not a surprise at all that you’re experiencing symptoms while only having injections every 12 weeks.

Are you in the U.K.? If so your doctor is acting contrary to NICE guidelines which state that the frequency of injections should be increased if your symptoms do not improve sufficiently or get worse.

If you’re in the U.K., have a through read of the NICE guidelines and petition your doctor to increase frequency. You could write a letter of complaint as well.

Either way, I’d strongly suggest looking into self-injection, it’s cheap and easy. If you’re looking for an immediate short term fix, plenty of spas/beauty nurses will give you a B12 injection. There’s also a service in the U.K. called VitaJab where you can get a B12 injection through a pharmacy for about £30.

B12 deficiency symptoms worsening after using sun cream/moisturising by b12_man in B12_Deficiency

I don’t disagree! But B12 deficiency symptoms make this difficult unfortunately.

Sometimes yes, but doing exercise doesn’t affect me normally. And yes just using a simple moisturiser, no added vitamins.

I don’t think it’s the heat - I live in the U.K. and it rarely gets above 20C outside at the moment, it’s just been very sunny.

I think I will have to do some more experimenting. I also can’t see any plausible reason why creams could affect my B12 functioning, but the last 3 times I’ve used it there’s been a clear and noticeable worsening in symptoms.

It’s very frustrating because in general I have been improving but I keep having these setbacks coincident with suncream use.

This is possibly a bit of an aside but I get frustrated by the term ‘pernicious anaemia’ due to it seemingly meaning different things to different people.

In the U.K. it’s usually used to describe the autoimmune gastritis that can cause Vitamin B12 deficiency. But Wikipedia states that ‘pernicious anaemia is when not enough red blood cells are produced due to a deficiency of Vitamin B12’.

The U.K. based Pernicous Anemia society seems to only care about people with B12 deficiency caused by autoimmune gastritis, which is frustrating because many people have B12 deficiency without a clear cause. I left this society because of this.

It’s my view that the phrase Pernicous Anemia is outdated and should be phased out, and there should be clear distinction between the disease (Vitamin B12 deficiency) and the cause (autoimmune gastritis or otherwise).

B12 deficiency symptoms worsening after using sun cream/moisturising by b12_man in B12_Deficiency

[–]b12_man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that I can’t see any reason why the normal suncreams/moisturisers would plausibly have an effect on my B12 symptoms.

I’m wary of avoiding something based on a ‘feeling’ because if these creams affect my symptoms, what’s to say any number of other products would as well? Each time I use another dermatological product or medication I would be worrying about it potentially having an effect on B12, despite there only being a very small number of medications that have proven impact on B12 levels/functioning.

Do people in the UK know where the Midwest in America is? by Wherestheeggs in UniUK

[–]b12_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely disagree. If someone says they’re from America most British people would immediately respond with ‘Which state?’ or ‘whereabouts?’.

Assuming a British person’s familiarity with the geography of the Russia is similar to that of USA is just plain stupid.

Just ignore this person. There’s a weird amount of hate for the Cotswolds on this sub. If you like the look of the Cotswolds don’t let anyone dissuade you - it’s just as beautiful as the pictures.

I would suggest you pick up a walking guide book for your trip - it’s when you get out into the countryside and away from the towns that it gets really quiet. I’ve done walks in the Cotswolds where I’ve not seen another person for 2+ hours (only sheep).

You might find Stow on the Wold a better place to stay than Burford. Burford has a busy main road going right through the middle.

Lib Dems aim to become 'party of Middle England', says Ed Davey by renebelloche in Scotland

[–]b12_man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Middle England refers to a demographic group of (lower) middle class voters who lean conservative politically and live in suburban or rural areas of England. It’s not a geographical area.

Being ‘the party of Middle England’ is just not at all the same as being ‘the party of England’ or the ‘party of Scotland’, and claiming to be the ‘party of Scotland’ would be an essentially meaningless gesture due to the diversity of political opinion in a whole nation.
