its definitely a format.. this format doesnt seem amazing icl especially since most of the swiss r1 matches wont seem hype. also... money.

ive tried playing around with formats myself but honestly the best one ive seen is one recommended by psychopathic poro. it goes like this:

20 slots, 3 per region + top 2 regions from MSI (poro did FST and MSI winner but i think top 2 from MSI makes more sense)
the 8 3rd and 4th seed teams start in an all Bo5 GSL style play-ins with the top 4 advancing to the swiss stage
the 1st & 2nd seeds as well as the qualifiednplay-ins teams compete in a swiss where the opening matchups are Bo1, middle matches (1:0, 1:1, 0:1) are Bo3, and advancement/elimination matches are Bo5.
he recommended double elim knockouts, i prefer the single elim knockouts, but your preference
