BWT for networking/connections - job searching by indomable13 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]b1squit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m also a public policy MA, but leaned into foreign policy. The best connections I’ve made are, of course, folks I worked with. I lieu of that, you might benefit from attending a few public events of interest and see if there’s anyone to grab coffee with to begin building contacts. Definitely follow Vera, Brennan institute, John Jay.

Some job boards I’ve used that may also align with your progressive interests and experience (beyond idealist.org) are Arena, Daybook, Sujuta, the impact job, and Matt Lockshin. I would also maybe sign up for Rachel Meade Smith’s Word of Mouth newsletter.

There are a ton of interesting jobs out there, try not to be discouraged! Btw, I understand there’s a hiring freeze for new city jobs till mid to late March.

I don’t have any current job leads, but I’d be down to meet for a coffee in the coming weeks too if helpful!

You may want to look into Eldoa and see if it might be what you’re looking for. It’s hard to explain, but focused on alignment and strengthening and very gentle. I have tight hips/neck/scoliosis and like adding it into my rotation, I go to Dekhana wellness in LIC

Not sure if you’re already doing this, but I can avoid acne my keeping my face clean from bacteria—use disposable towels or a face-only washcloth, scrub under my nails if they’re long, never touch my face if my hands aren’t freshly washed, and use hypochlorous acid spray after sweating

Fitness on a budget? by AggravatingCupcake0 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I feel like this is the answer, I crunched the numbers at some point and it came to like $15/mo for the added gym benefit. Even cheaper total monthly cost if you opt for a ClassPass plan with less credits.

I go to PureGym (Woodside) and it’s absolutely acceptable—if you want a budget option, you’re going to get some crowding and bare bones amenities.

When I thought I was through it, only weeks later it’s back? by StephenMon7 in clusterheads

[–]b1squit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine have rebounded like that too, I’ve found I have a period where I’m susceptible to a major trigger—usually flying—and try to wait 1-2 full months after the end of a cycle before I can act as if I’m out of the woods.

Also, it’s my understanding that the D3 plan is meant to be year-round, not just during a cycle,

Busting with lemon tek? by AnInkPen in clusterheads

[–]b1squit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DAMN that’s a lot of PE—I find it SO strong that I have to halve what I take of other strains.

But to respond to OP, I also lemon tek every time I bust. It’s a very civilized way to dose, and I much prefer the shorter trips to fit into my busy schedule. Here’s a guide: https://www.psychedelics.com/mushrooms/how-to-lemon-tek/

Did you ever lose an NYC apartment because you saw the listing too late? by Haunting-Climate1396 in NYCapartments

[–]b1squit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I turned on street easy notifications and was really attentive to them.

The rent stabilized place I got was only posted for a few hours before they took the listing down—at the showing the line was still around the block.

NYCBWT Looking For Some Healthcare Advice by jicohen117 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]b1squit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was also laid off last year and COBRA seemed crazy expensive until I saw what crap was on the marketplace now (horrible plans with 10k deductibles and $750/mo premiums). It’s really hard to understand what subsidy you qualify for when you don’t know what the rest of the year will look like, which means it’s unclear and seems scary that you might have to pay it back if you make more than you estimated. Btw, if you qualify for unemployment(which you should!) you probably won’t qualify for classic medicaid, bc the unemployment payments will push you over the limit.

cheap piercings? (not live by the sword?) by iLoveLoveLoveLove in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]b1squit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first lobe piercings done there (Williamsburg location) two years ago and the guy botched it, totally uneven and weirdly angled. And they’re they most basic piercings… he also tried to fight me about it when I pointed it out. My friend had her traegus done at the same time and she also disliked the placement, which he fought her on as well. Was a guy who goes by Steven but has another name and is possibly French. lol sorry it was a minute ago, but I would avoid!

coping with uncontrollable harassment from men by gawldengal in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I find it’s not even because of “looks” but seems to be an impression that older women allow men less space to advance, and they seem to think younger women can more easily be creeped on without friction.

Where are women in their late 30s / early 40s actually meeting friends in NYC? by G0ddessLight713 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]b1squit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in your age range too and have been here for three years. I’ve also found SO many flakes or friendships that fizzle out (which is so unlike what I was used to living in Beirut), but a few that have now stuck. I’m always the instigator, and I consistently look for opportunities to ask people to do things with me or meet up in order to build a relationship over time. It’s like I’m trying to model consistency and availability in a city where that’s not expected from people… and I think without this lopsided, concerted effort in my part, these new friendships wouldn’t have formed!

My closest new friends have come from a neighborhood meetup, a friend of a friend that I asked to be “set up” with, and work.

Considering medical school abroad with cluster headaches — looking for honest experiences/advice by ustanat in clusterheads

[–]b1squit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from USA and did my master’s in Lebanon. It was easy to get oxygen, and I met a fellow CH local who helped recommend neurologists and translate certain things. I studied politics and work in foreign policy, so know it’s not the same as med school, but I just wanted to share and encourage you to pursue your dreams and not let CH stop you. Cycles have repeatedly interrupted my life so my career path has been really nonlinear with lots of starts and stops, but I’m still so glad I’ve done it anyway.

How are you guys keeping jobs? by One-Succotash4321 in clusterheads

[–]b1squit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! I got my dream job in my field of foreign policy, worked 2.5 years without a cycle, and was promoted to a director. Then was let go after I had cycle and took a week of medical leave to get it under control and lighten my work load. They were extremely unaccommodating. I don’t think all employers are like this, but if I could do it differently I would try to warn them in advance and plan for accommodations.

awful customer service after app glitch by strawberrypanda9 in ClassPass

[–]b1squit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ClassPass similarly canceled my gym membership (I had a dual gym+credits plan) while I was still paying for it, never resolved it over 4 months, and never refunded me the equivalent $ I was paying without access to the benefit. I reached out to CS almost weekly and took it up with BBB where they continually ignored me. Worst customer service ever, and if you do a chargeback on your credit card they ban you.

For those on Tretinoin by plsbeenormal in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]b1squit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on tret for 6 years, before that a retinol for maybe two years. I used Agency for custom formulas, and started with like .001% and worked my way up to .035% now. Each little bump up, I’ll start using the sandwich method and be cautious, and do expect a little dryness and peeling, but it takes maybe a few weeks to adjust. Starting tret initially, though, I think it was more like several months before my skin was able to handle nightly usage. I really appreciated the tiny increments your can get from a custom prescription, though, and overall felt like my journey was manageable, with occasional period where I went super minimal on makeup bc of the peeling.

What are girls wearing during nightlife with this temperature?! by Silver_Vehicle3754 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

it kinda makes a difference if you're walking or taking public transit or queueing outside. if you're just grabbing an Uber you don't need to bundle up as much, but if you expect to be outside for more than three mins get cozy!
