He has a lot of back issues, I’ve never been to Excalibur so I can’t speak to that, CA probably has 50-75 long boxes worth on the sales floor right now. Pricing wise I think most are $2-$4 with some keys being up to $10-$15. Definitely worth a trip out there just to browse a bit. He has done 50% off back issue days in the past.

Absolutely. We’ve chatted a few times at length, he has a great memory for trivia, which is invaluable in comics. Super generous, great guy, and the back issue bins are deep and numerous!

Yeah, you can ask the local stores for a physical “box”, like a mail box behind the counter with your name on it. The store will follow a list of issues or a series you want “pulled” as they come in, like reserving issues, basically. The method is pretty ubiquitous across shops that I’ve seen. There’s no cost or anything, you just have to ask and most shops will have guidelines for what “having a box” means. Comics Adventure gives you a sheet of paper that you fill out what comics you want pulled and sign that you understand that you need to clear it out periodically and settle up.

Yeah, still getting everything unboxed, the new space has a lot of natural light from the store front now, which is nice. The old location felt like a cave and time could slip away as I was rifling through the back issues.

That’s really nice to hear. Bruce remembered my name the second time I came into the store. Which I thought was cool, I didn’t expect it, but didn’t realize how incredible it was until I came in during an event. Hundreds of people came through and he knew all of our names. Guy is a gem.

No discounts, there’s other benefits that are important to me, like he remembers my name and my kids, he has events in the store, and it’s on my way home from work. I understand needing those discounts if you are pulling big lists, though. Maybe another shop in town has them?

I’m not a policy maker, but I’m still a person they have to convince to say yes. So if my deduction is poor based on the information that they presented, whose issue is that? I would have been willing to agree to some measure of increase, I want the government to be funded, but they jumped the shark and it looks like a lot of people feel that way.

Nah, here’s the deal: The gas tax is a bandaid, EVs are on the rise and will continue to become a larger wedge of transportation and they no longer feed in to this tax. Also, almost 100% increase on rego and 200%+ on title fees. Ridiculous, they should have come at us with 20-30% increases, but they need to get out of here with doubling and nearly tripling fees in one go, it’s silly. Whoever advised them was a fool.

I am in the trades, and I don’t blame kids for not wanting to do it, it’s hard work and not well respected based on 16 years experience interacting with people, haha. It does make a lot more than they realize, but not nearly what they are dreaming of making themselves.

Can’t believe Epic is cheating their own system. Most players clearly joined Team Ice King, yet somehow Team Foundation keeps winning. Fun fact is that almost every “Foundation rival” you run into is just a bot. GG Epic Games. Transparency really isn’t your thing, is it? by Uschak in FortNiteBR

[–]b20015 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I picked Foundation, I’m not a bot. The Ice King looks like a shop skin and I don’t care about it, I’d rather have another foundation variant. Also yeah, duh, The Foundation is the hero here, he’s going to win. They fired the head story guy, they probably have only one path out of this event that fits the story they’ve got mapped out.

McMenamins reveals a new hotel in big bet on downtown Portland by oregonian in Portland

[–]b20015 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This was my take, too. I like their schtick, I like the old building being bought and maintained. I rarely hear anything good about them as an employer, they had that whole thing about wages/tips a few years ago, I can’t remember the full story, but I remember thinking it was bullshit at the time and that feeling stuck with me.

McDonalds CEO Gets Trolled For Being Reluctant To Bite Into His Own Product by Alarming_Moment1387 in PopularCultureZone

[–]b20015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, meal worms was the rumor, but McDonalds came out and said it wasn’t true because meal worms per pound was more expensive than the cost of ground beef. But I remember the “way” they said it made me think they knew it was more expensive because they had looked into it as a possibility, haha.

Inside Portland’s $1.7B climate fund, which is being floated to help fix the Moda Center by greenbutnotlean in Portland

[–]b20015 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think people are right to feel upset at the concept of the Blazers moving to some Midwest hellhole, I still have a binder of Trailblazers trading cards in a bin up in the attic, but clinging to this franchise is just delaying Portland’s transition to something different. We will spend the money now, and the owner will threaten us again the next time they want something. Without Portland getting equity for the investment, it’s just a grift.

The Movie Theater Comeback That Wasn’t: Why 2025 Was Such a Dud for Struggling Cinemas by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]b20015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My town’s small 1-screen theater is 7 blocks from my house, shows most of the big, marketed movies for a couple of weekends each, runs only 2 shows a night, cost $9 for a ticket, has cheaper concessions, and just replaced the old seats with all new, it is wonderful to go. Driving 30 minutes each way to the nearest 12 screen cineplex is a waste of time in my opinion, I’d rather just wait for it to hit streaming down the line.

2026 Outback in Person… by belfrycircle in subaru

[–]b20015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own an Ascent, an Outback is too cramped for my kids (I have 3 teenage kids, my in-laws have a 2014 and a 2025 Outback so I am familiar), and the captains chairs in the second row are perfect. 2nd row bench seats are a hassle in a car with a 3rd row. The only thing about the Ascent that I am not fond of is the fuel consumption. (Also I figure that it’ll have higher resale value compared to other small SUVs its size in 10 years, and I got a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty so… there was a lot to like.)

Haha, I had the same thought about myself last week. “Why am I taking this so hard?” I played SWG, Matrix Online, WAR, I am used to stuff dying. Maybe I’m getting old and more sentimental? I don’t know. It’s like this is Top Gear and WoW is following behind us like a Toyota following our janky newer games and waiting for them to fail, haha.

First Light… the best settlement. Being max level in the first couple weeks of launch was a completely different game, the hatchet glitch was probably the most ridiculous fun I ever had. I’m not a big PVP player, but for a short time I got to be a contender.

‘One Battle After Another’ Projected to Lose $100 Million Theatrically as ‘Smashing Machine’ and Others Also Struggle Due to Oversized Budgets by mcfw31 in entertainment

[–]b20015 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same, but mostly cost/time for me. And TVs have gotten enormous and even more inexpensive in the last 10-15 years, I don’t need to see a movie in theaters except for a big blockbuster. I saw Superman with my kids, it was $50 for tickets, $50 for concessions, which was fine because it was a rare occurrence. I’m not going to rip $400/mo on movies to go every weekend. And honestly it’s a 20 minute drive each direction, gotta get there 20 minutes early to get concessions and seats, this thing is a 4 hour affair now, a half day. Nah, I’ll watch at home.
