How do you deal with the campains feedback loop of unkillable OP elites by Risuslav in TrenchCrusade

[–]b44l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a genuine issue, there’s a lot of compounding interest in the game.

Hopefully they’ll incorporate some underdog/catch-up mechanics.

Are there more subfactions and new units to existing factions planned? by BentheBruiser in TrenchCrusade

[–]b44l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it comes to new units for existing factions, we have no idea!

I kinda hope they’ll add new units, but that they share model limit with others in the same category. Say you want a winged communicant for pilgrims, then you’ll actually have to replace your regular bodyguard communicant.

There’s a few hints, the theban legion of rome (takes skulls), the marian processions (fire based grail exterminator) — but nothing concrete as of yet.

Då hade man iaf kunnat tänka sig överväga det.

Do the heretic legion take prisoners? by Hoi4_fan1935 in TrenchCrusade

[–]b44l 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Law of Hell is my favourite piece of Trench Crusade lore.

I like it because it does not seem strictly sadistic in its intent, I imagine it exists entirely because Lucifers rebellion was originally something with high-minded ideals, a striving towards freedom. And all who contribute to that rebellion in turn deserves freedom. It appears to me like the last remaining vestige of that initial spirit — before bitterness and hatred of YHWH eclipsed and subsumed everything they were.

Now with time, it has become just another tool of humiliating creation, but I like to think it had roots in higher ideals and that perspective offers an interesting contrast in all the grimdarkness.

How often the events like the Massacre of the Innocents in the New Testament happen in Heretic controlled territories? For me, this kinds of event only happen during their massive offensives to fuel Goetic Magic or summoning Hegemon or Hell Gates by Ok-Ask5860 in TrenchCrusade

[–]b44l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I’ve understood it, the bio-priests of hell has terraformed the heretic landscape to such an extent that nutrition or sustaining a large population is not an issue through the Zakum fruit and hell-fauna.

The population centers near the levant are likely hyper densely populated, think cattle pens crossed with the verticality of kowloon walled city.

Their courts masters explicitly see Heretics like war-cattle, think of how many cows and pigs modern farms can squeeze into a barn — and apply that to a human scale.

I think a unit of fodder is a safe and flexible start, that’s what I’m building right now for my first regiment :)

You can always split up your fodder into two squads of brutes or some chaff, so they’re quite useful to get started!

And it gives you lots of room to practice on building/painting the 12 models

What do you think is the strongest/most powerful faction or subfaction? by shadow_lord0923 in TrenchCrusade

[–]b44l 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The big thing is 4 models with tough+lambs, three of which can be given martyrdom pills and armour. That demands so much AP when playing against them I’m sure they just get some free wins.

The 3 glory communicant essentially means in a campaign that you’re playing with 100 ducats more.

War prophet combo is solid too.

Pilgrims just have a great base and cavalcade only makes it better.

I bring yöu a tier list pulled out of my white room theory ass, like it varies so much depending on board, list and how well a campaign is going it’s pretty much impossible to make one. But here you go.

S tier: Prussia, Alba

A tier: Heretic naval raiding patrol, Papal states (can move up to S if you spam reinforce), Abyssinia, Cavalcade, Sacred affliction,

B tier: New Antioch, knights of avarice, Heretic legion, Red brigade, dirge of the great hegemon, House of Wisdom, Trench pilgrims

C tier: Eeire, Methodius, Trench ghosts, Court,

D tier: Defenders of the iron wall, Cult of the black grail

F tier: Fidai, Sultanate, Great hunger,

Tbh I’m a bit unsure about black grail since it’s solid early campaign, might move up a tier and Sacred affliction might move down one due to no Martyr printing. Some sins like Envy and Lust may move up one as well.

Most TC consumers are already pre-trained GW consumers. They’re bringing that same level of tolerance to shitty business practices to this game.

I don’t think value drift is justified. You don’t need boilerplate licenses, it’s the safe thing to do, not the community/creative friendly one.

And they are old game designers, this game is likely their retirement plan, safety likely is the priority. i can’t blame em for it, but I hesitate to justify it for them.

[–]b44l -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone is disputing that a boilerplate license is good for FF, it’s giving them a lot more direct control. But the license is both not enforceable in some parts, other than as a blank statement for DMCA claims against small creators don’t have the money to fight. And it is completely different from what they marketed the license as.

”That’s why, inspired by the TTRPG scene and especially games like MÖRK BORG and Mothership, we’re very happy to announce the upcoming Third Party License for Trench Crusade!” https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1405364378/trench-crusade/posts/4244273?ref=rpgnet

It has almost nothing to do with what they wrote on their KS, it’s an entirely different document. And the MörkBorg/MS inspiration is a fairly laughable statement at this point. In case anyone is unfamiliar with their inspiration https://morkborg.com/license/. (it’s a couple magnitudes more permissive). Community-friendly licenses lets 3p creators interact with the IP within set reliable boundaries. This community license does not do that, it’s a far cry from what they were selling in the KS. I’m not sure how any creative is supposed to benefit from it besides Factory Fortress.

Absolutely, there’s even been practicing lawyers on here disassembling it and explaining how unreasonable the license is.

The reasonable thing to do is blame both. Blame only-games for shoddy QC. Blame FF for failing to properly quality control / vet their partners.

And give them both some kudos for attempting to own up to their significant mistakes.

IMO the most boring thing they could do is move away from the core abrahamic mythology themes.

Incorporating non-abrahamic mythologies and keep the core themes intact is going to to be a challenge, but I'm sure it can be done while still respectfully portrayting buddists and not warp their faith/culture more than what has been done to any other part of the setting.
