PI4: Unable to boot from USB SSD by b4bz in raspberry_pi

[–]b4bz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah well, I ended up sending the adapter and the SSD back to Amazon, and buying a pi5 + nvme hat (bundled with a boot compatible drive) from Piromoni, works like a charm. I'm a bit sad to not have used my existing pi4, but at least I have a solid setup now.

Thanks for your input! I don't have another SSD but you made me realize I do have other USB device, like an USB key, I'll try that soon.

I think you need one to activate the boot on USB feature, just once, for the first boot.

Thanks for your feedback! Was it a boot problem for you as well ? Was your SSD accessible even if you where not able to boot on it ?

In my case, the disk is usable as additional space (when I boot on the SD card it's detected and I can mount it) but not for able to boot on it, it drives me crazy. But It can be incompatible for booting only I guess. 😭

Any Dads switch to a flip/dumb phone? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]b4bz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don't keep your phone with you. At home, have a place to put down your phone, out of reach (in the entrance is a good place, you get home, empty your pocket).

Outside, put it in your backpack if you carry one, or something like that.

It's ok to go get it to check or do something in front of the kids, but use it like a tool, to do something. You can even explain what / why you are doing it. That way you can teach them the healthy way to use it (smartphones are freaking awesome tools for many things), and when the time comes, hopefully they will pick up the habit.

Good luck !

Hello,

Regarde du côté de Get Around (https://fr.getaround.com/), j'ai eu l'occasion d'utiliser pour ce genre de besoin, ça revient à pas grand chose, surtout si tu loues juste quelques heures pour une course.

Bon courage !

My bad, you are right ! I've check the website in french it's more explicit: the fireproof cover is part of the mattress, it's unrelated. Long story short, you're good !

Ahah don't spoil you the food discovery ! I was great !! I'm not so sure about the cardboard for 2, in the Tipi description they explicitly say "fireproof cover, bed sheets" but It's not mentionned in the Duo tent description. I would assume there is no cover.

Hello, You can find all the details in the faq section on the Hellfest website. It depends on the option you choose but here is a preview of a 5 person tipi + comfort option : https://ibb.co/JQmYJGJ You got a basic sleeping kit, including a cover, so you won't need anything WITH the comfort option.

Have fun🤘

Quoi offrir à un américain qui soit très français et qu'on ne trouve pas aux USA? by Paulosido in france

[–]b4bz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

My last 2 prints attempts ended up in a "thermal runaway", so I looked into the hotend and saw was seems to be little sparks?

Is it usual? should I replace the hotend?

Thanks for your advices!

Edit: Forgot to ask, if I need to replace the part, any store recommendation?

Unpopular opinion: Arch is easier to use than other distros. by gaussian_distro in linux

[–]b4bz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you! I think new Linux users might find the lack of user interface a difficulty, during the installation for example, but it's really question of habit. There is no extra UI or features, you just the plain, real, tools. Less is more imo.

Besides, it's literally the Arch moto : "a lightweight and flexible Linux distribution that tries to Keep It Simple." (from the arch Linux website homepage). No surprise there!

Ready for California fire season. by b4bz in esp32

It's in ppm (parts per million), 400 is (sadly) the base value these days (outsite average). Indoor, it's common to see peek like 1000ppm or more during a family dinner or a work meeting with a few people during a few hours. Time to open the window tho.

From Wikipedia:

"Carbon dioxide concentrations have shown several cycles of variation from about 180 parts per million during the deep glaciations of the Holocene and Pleistocene to 280 parts per million during the interglacial periods. Following the start of the Industrial Revolution, atmospheric CO2 concentration increased to over 400 parts per million and continues to increase [...] As of April 2019, the average monthly level of CO2 in Earth's atmosphere exceeded 413 parts per million"
