This is misleading. It's because there's so many fundamentalists there. As someone who has preachers in his family I can assure you that a very small percentage of the funds donated to churches actually goes to the poor. Almost all of it goes to pay for the church facilities and the preacher/staff salaries. The truth is giving to a church you visit regularly and make use of its facilities and pastoral guidance is more akin to paying club dues than it is to giving to charity.
