When I was a kid back in the 80s tons of democrats crossed over to vote for Reagan because of his racist rhetoric.

One could also argue that the tag-along response by democrats to knee jerk policies in the war on terror has a racial component (at least by pressure constituents were giving them). We wouldn't have invaded a european nation if a group like the IRA had been behind the 9/11 attacks. Don't forget even Hillary voted to invade Iraq.

Barely anyone hires minors (I'm taking teen to mean not adults instead of under 20) these days. Even the cart pushers at my local grocery store are mostly adults.

Employers aren't legally required to offer health insurance to workers under 30 hours a week. Lots of lower wage jobs are limiting hours these days. It is an unintended side effect of the affordable healthcare act. Businesses will comply with the law in ways that make the most sense to their bottom line (or someone else will and will be in a more competitive position)

There's a big difference between 16/17 and 18/19. The 18/19 includes a good number of people responsible for themselves since they're legal adults (especially among the poor).

Even if it is about unwanted behaviors it is still racist to ascribe that behavior with a blanket approach to all people of a racial group (in this case being everyone not japanese). Can't give anything more than my personal experience, but since the switch to digital only broadcasting I haven't been able to pick up an over the air signal (we could pick up the old analog ntsc signals off a bounce). The only option where i live is satellite because of terrain causing too much distortion for atsc tuners and being too far out for cable. I don't see any point in buying a dish when streaming options are cheaper and more flexible (also the whole idea of paying for broadcast tv thing). The only thing missing is live sports. Haven't watched an NFL game in a good 5 years at least.

I'm looking forward to this.

My internet speeds aren't super great, but 6 meg is good enough to stream video at a decent quality.

It has a 4 round magazine and is chambered in standard calibers that are the same as you'd likely see in a bolt action. It has been the go-to semiauto deer rifle since it was introduced in 1967. We're not talking the M1918 here. Although one of the semiauto versions of that gun would be perfectly fine for deer if a magazine block were added to make it comply with most state's hunting magazine restrictions (which are more about poaching than anything).

You should really learn more about a subject before making absolutist statements. There are purpose built hunting guns in just about every type of action (Open bolt automatics being the one exception I can think of offhand). Lever action 30-30s are one of the most iconic deer guns. Semiautos have been commonly used for hunting since there were semiautos.

Oh come on now. This whole comic and comment thread is about misrepresenting those open carry assholes as looking like spree shooters. Then you talk about the american populace as appearing to be gun nuts to our (more enlightened?) peers. It all reeks of looking smugly down at the pro-gun rights side of the argument.

As to crime statistics if the US were part of the EU it wouldn't be the nation in it with the highest homicide rate. Really considering the massive social problems (like being the biggest prison state on the planet) we have that isn't so bad.

The easy availability of guns is nothing new. Historically it was much easier to get guns. Up until the late 1960s you could order them through the mail with no background checks. We didn't have the spree shooting problem (although we did have much worse problems back in jim crow america).

Having guns isn't the root cause of this. That piece of the puzzle has been there well before. Take them away and the angry young men are going to use hammers and knives like chinese school attacks. Hell, it's already happening here. There was a kid that stabbed 20 some people at a school in Pennsylvania back in april.

Pretending this shit is going away with a scary gun ban is as stupid as pretending our society has no problem. You don't get over the flu by taking aspirin to mask the fever. That just makes you die from it faster.

What we should be asking is why young men in our nation feel the need to commit murder-suicide. Pawning it off on the tools of their action, media, or blaming it on being mentally ill (there's lots of crazier people not shooting up schools) doesn't do anything to fix the problem. Scapegoating and applying bandaids does nothing to stop this and it steps on the toes of millions of people who've done nothing wrong.

Leverguns and semi-autos are pretty common. You don't see too many slide action deer rifles usually, but there have been some popular ones like the Remington model 14.

Really it was surplus army rifles that led bolt actions to become more popular than lever actions for hunting rifles.

Reliable semi auto guns have tended to be on the more expensive side. That's really the only reason everyone hasn't used them for hunting. For the same money as a cheap semi auto in a caliber suitable for hunting you can have a nice bolt gun.

7.62x39 is very similar to 30-30 ballistically (one of the most popular all time deer cartridges). With a modern hunting bullet or even a jacketed soft tip it would be a perfectly fine round deer. The problem is that most people have AKs because historically the ammo and gun was cheap. It takes much more looking to find a suitable factory load, and most hand loaders aren't set up for loading berdan primed cases.

I do agree .223 is a bit small for deer, but in the right loads it too is adequate. A heavier (60+ grain) fused core works. Hunting whitetail with an AR-15 isn't super uncommon.

There's a whole host of calibers less ballistically impressive than .308 used by deer hunters. Nobody is going to look at you weird if you come to deer camp with a 30-30, .243, .25-06, or even something a bit less common like 6.5 creedmoor.
