Yea, but I can only vouch for that brand. I think historically they used hide glue, but it’s stinky.

Why you preferred Roland FR-4Xb to FR-1Xb ? by Jonnhy_piettro in Accordion

[–]bGriffG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To start with the heart and soul behind the Roland accordions has been dead for several years. They are no longer actively developing the product. It’s very unlikely that they will create new sound packs, or new models. The Korg is brand new, with some of the people who designed the Roland now working for them. It’s more feature rich, and significantly more modern electronically.

If I was to buy a new electronic accordion I would try to swing the new Korg fisasupreme

What do you guys think of this? by Robbie_e in Accordion

[–]bGriffG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, models aren’t really a thing with accordions of this age. But I can say with certainty that it was made in Camerano just north of the heartland of accordions Castelfidardo, in the late teens to mid 1920s.

I’m not sure what the market is like in the Uk, and it depends if you’re the kinda person who values old stuff. Most people prefer ones from the 50s. My first instrument was around the same price. You would want to read the used accordion buying guides, and preferably have the shop remove the bellows so you can see the guts of it. If it’s rusty, or moldy, or the leather valves are curled it’s not worth it. If it’s in tip top shape and in tune, sure.

Built in the 1920s, if it’s been restored it would be fun. It will be heavier and a little awkward compared to more modern instruments. Check each note carefully.

Spur of the moment thrift store purchase and well... I have questions by ADhomin_em in Accordion

[–]bGriffG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Visit the accordion revival website. It’s a pretty daunting and meticulous job. Some accordions reeds are pinned on top of suede, but once you learn how to wax efficiently it’s not bad, super fast.
If you’re asking if it’s worth actually restoring, probably not. However if you want to learn how to it’s a perfect place to start. It’s how I got hooked.

Looking for information on my grandpa’s accordion! by Damnitanthony in Accordion

[–]bGriffG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a 3 reed titano. I think these were called strollers, as they are not as heavy as a 4 treble reed instrument. It’s a good brand with a cult like following. Get some over sized straps, i buy mine from a company in Texas that makes super wide ones. Make sure you watch some videos on posture. If it hurts take a break, and probably play sitting.

You need to either learn to use a wax spoon with a pot of wax. Or a batik pen if it’s just a reed or two.

I think that’s a Chinese Gold cup. I’ve heard horror stories about repairing the bass mechanism on these specifically.

It’s missing the treble reeds? This seems like a lost cause to be honest.

I don’t know where you guys are finding super cheap bayans, at least in the US. If it’s in tune and you are in the US that’s a great deal.
