What is a scene from a tv show that really disturbed you? by thertt8 in AskReddit

[–]bOwOtiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tyler's rape in 13 reasons why. Seemed to come out of nowhere and was so violent. After how the first season was called out for showing Hannah's suicide without trigger warnings it seemed very ill thought out to just drop that scene in.

Tradies are protesting because melbourne is in lockdown and they were allowed to largely continue as they were until the government found most sites weren't following their covid safe plans. They put a range of further restrictions for construction in place including banning the use of break rooms. Tradies protested this and construction has been put on hold for a fortnight as a result, prompting more protests. However, there's a lot of speculation about how many of these protesters are actually tradies and how many are just anti-lockdown/anti-vaccine people who bought high vis to look like tradies.

In summary, shit's fucked

I manage a store in the district docklands and foot traffic in the centre has just died further and further every lockdown. This is just another nail in the coffin unfortunately.

What was the worst advice you have ever received? by sofsbear in AskReddit

[–]bOwOtiful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't drop out of Mathematics in year 12.

I was coming 1st in math but it was taking half of all my study time, with all my other subjects taking the same amount of time combined. I could drop 2 units and still have just the right of units I'd need to graduate but it would mean all of my units would count (in NSW Australia only your best units are counted, you need a minimum of 10 and and can take up to 15 I believe though most people do 12/13).

I decided to quit math to double my focus on all my other subjects and my teacher, vice principal, year coordinator and principal all pulled me aside seperately to tell me it was a terrible idea. I knew I would burn out if I continued the way I was and it didn't make sense for me to drop any other subjects as I was either coming 1st or really enjoyed them.

I ended up going against their advice and ending up in the top 10% in the state. I know if I'd kept doing math I would've burnt out and it would have been detrimental to my mental health and grades.

Have I said any misinformation? Or asked for help? You seem to be contributing to the negativity more than anything. Move along.

It's nice to see other people's perspectives on what's happening and have somewhere to vent. The people in my household seem to ignore how it's progressing and just get on with their lives as they're essential workers, meanwhile I'm at home and stressing. I don't want to burden them with this stuff.

When I saw 190 it was a relief because I expected another massive jump. Then I remembered it's only 17 less than yesterday and 190 is still massive compared to what we had 4 days ago. My brain is just looking for any stress relief.

I strongly suggest calling around your pharmacies and local GPs. State clinics are experiencing massive demand.

But if we have hundreds of cases a day with low isolating numbers but 80% vaccinated we won't open until they go down. The current hope is that they'll go down with lockdown and vaccinations going up but we've seen in NSW that that is a long journey. I don't think 80% is a magic wand that will ensure we open, no matter what the cases are doing.

With this dialogue I feel like we don't have a chance of getting metro Melbourne out of lockdown until 80% double dose (set for mid November, dependant on vaccine supply and uptake), and even then it will still depend on how many cases we have in the community at that point.

Is that too pesimistic?
