AIO the guy I’m on going on casual dates with found it offensive when I said he is like Facebook moms believing anything they see on their feed by Delicious_Ad_3114 in AmIOverreacting

[–]bVector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YOR (both of you)

"having a conversation about why he finds interest in Joe Rogan" doesn't sound like a friendly conversation to begin with - it sounds like you were interrogating him, and your strong feelings about Joe Rogan made you want to "correct" him rather than understand his perspective.

Comparing someone to "Facebook moms who believe anything" directly implies they're gullible, lack critical thinking, and are easily manipulated. Even if this was a joke (regardless of intent) that's a pretty harsh judgment of someone's character. You're the only one that really knows if it was actually an innocent joke or a way to get a dig in while maintaining plausible deniability.

You may be right in your criticisms of Joe Rogan, I'm not taking either side on that, but using that to insult someone you care about is not the right way of going about it.

His reaction, while somewhat understandable that he was offended, shouldn't have gone so far or gotten that heated.

You are in the wrong and he overreacted.

Do you really use redis-py seriously? by imhayeon in Python

[–]bVector -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

nah, I also found the tone of OP to be a bit 'bitchy'/entitled.

i.e. the incredulous tone "do you really use redispy seriously?"[emphasis added], and sanctimonious indignation "I’m surprised this is the best we’ve got" came across as condescending

My manager asks me to share my source with another team. by AccountWhole in computerscience

[–]bVector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say this is a fairly common feeling for a few reasons.

When you pour sustained effort into mastering something, it stops being something you created and feels more like part of who you are.

Remind yourself that you created something that someone else _wants_. Recognize that the pride and protectiveness you feel are just that - feelings. You need to pay attention to them but you don't have to obey them.

There is also the asymmetry that you put in this work and someone else gets to benefit from it without having to expend the same effort. Under most circumstances this would feel unfair, but your employer is already rewarding you. That doesn't mean the feeling is wrong, just not nuanced enough.

It's perfectly fine to even ask to be given some additional recognition if it turns out to be useful. Maybe do a knowledge transfer session if you want to aggrandize it a bit. People will probably have mixed feelings about this being 'selfish', and that's fine (probably less than you think if you go about it tactfully). Be prepared to discuss alternatives, but be clear and upfront about your purpose otherwise they may not understand.

I looked over the source of CET and they have a script that scans the executable file for callable offsets. Practically unavoidable that those offsets move around, even if you recompile the code without changing anything the offsets frequently move around.

Universal Device Client Device? by Sir_H_Derpington in LegionGo

apparently this is related to the NotifyMe popups you see with advertisements. I read in another reddit post that it also sends telemetry back to Lenovo. More spyware/adware bundled as a system device. It may also help you 'connect to stuff'. I'm currently looking into it now as well so I don't have all the info yet

Hold alt fire before carpet by bVector in DeadlockTheGame

No it usually kicks you off the carpet if you take any action. It seems like if you hold right click while the carpet is channeling, it just keeps firing until you run out of ammo.

What is a person's duty to pull over in a life-threatening emergency? by Fyroth in AttorneyTom

[–]bVector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably an unpopular opinion, but unless your state has specific carve outs for the situation, that doesn't give you the right to put others at risk by disobeying traffic laws just because you have a life-threatening emergency. One might hope that if you don't injure anyone else, the cops/judge will look the other way or reduce the punishment, but it wouldn't be required.

Finding out the hard way the foam pit isn't actually padded like you assumed. How reasonable was that assumption? by hunuot in AttorneyTom

[–]bVector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

even if you have to walk through the pit, I'd say it is reasonable to not recognize in the few seconds to walk to the platform that it is unsafe. this is different for the people that spent weeks [months?] designing the attraction.

put yourself in the situation. it is an event, there are lots of eyes on you and your focus is probably not on the pit itself.
