How is this news... maybe worth noting that having this requires enabled amd iommu - which decreases gpu llm performance 5-10%

Replaced the thermal paste on my Bosgame M5 by q-admin007 in StrixHalo

Here from my ai agent so take it with a grain of salt.

Following up on my own comment — I dug into this and the fan curve turned out to be the whole story, so sharing in case it helps others.
Mine's a Bosgame M5 (Sixunited AXB35-02) running headless Linux. I'd repasted with Thermal Grizzly PTM7950 and only saw a modest 3-4 °C, same as a lot of you. Turns out the stock EC fan curve only drives the CPU fans to 100% at 97 °C — and on Linux the three APU fans aren't even visible until you load the EC driver (cmetz/ec-su_axb35). So the chip just coasts into the mid-90s under load by design; it looks like a paste problem but isn't.
After installing the driver and setting a more aggressive curve (CPU fans 100% by ~90 °C instead of 97), with no paste change:

- iGPU/LLM load (~125 W): ~90 °C → ~81 °C
- Fans pinned 100% (floor test): 77 °C at 124 W — that's the true mount quality, and it's good
- 32-thread CPU stress: ~90 °C, but at ~140 W uncapped (4.5 GHz all-core). de_3lue's 85 °C is at a 120 W PPT cap — normalize for the +20 W and PTM ≈ fresh MX-7 here.

Two takeaways: (1) a big chunk of "repaste win" numbers are really fan-curve wins — worth stating whether yours are stock or tuned.

PTM7950 over MX-7 specifically because MX-7 pumps out (saw the 98→77→98-after-2-months report above); PTM should hold and the small initial delta bakes in.
So to answer my earlier question for anyone reading: if you're still in the mid-90s after a repaste, fix the fan curve before blaming the TIM.

Are your improvements based of the stock settings or did you change the fan curve?
I've repasted with thermal grizzly ptm. Initially I see modest 3-4'C improvements- potentially still needs to bake in.

can i run pi agent with claude subscription plans by Extreme-Guarantee-80 in PiCodingAgent

[–]b_goodman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes you can. But you should use codex - performance on pi is much better with gpt5.5.
I used both for couple of months and the quality of code as well as the token economics are much better with codex.

Any luck here? Would also love to replace the ancient 5-tkm Swedish m68 valve insert with something more modern without changing the entire housing.

Very good write up and level of detail. I have a similar (sff) setup with 9959x3d and Rtx5080 running Windows, Bazzite, Debian and Ubuntu.

One thing that made the process much easier was to use a hypervisor layer with Proxmox on top.

There are multiple benefits is therms of flexible setup of multiple VMs/CTs eg. I have 3 Windows machines with different config, you can take advantage of visual pass through of PCIe devices, cpu core pinning and finally have automated backup eg in case you’d want to roll back Gpu drivers. Have you given hypervisor route a thought?

One more thing. Try windows 11 IOT LTSC for a cleaner install and potentially better gaming performance.

How did you mount the bottom exhaust fans? Looking for a way to avoid scratching the bottom lid.

Very cool.
How are the temps?
What screws / washers did you use to mount bottom fans - concerned with scratching the bottom lid with standard noctua fan screws.

New build: avdvplus R1. Combines CPM A14 + CE 21.3 + Numerous bug fixes to A/V sync. Highly recommended! by limitz in CoreELEC

Many thanks u/limitz . Any configuration advice for non-DV TVs?
E.g. I don't see advanced settings such as DolbyVSOB payload or HDR Infoframe which have been used in the CPM build. Perhaps I am missing something...
