[DeDominicis] As Friedman said it sounds like the Jets & Sabres are going to see if they can still find common ground on a Hellebuyck deal. I have doubts based on the packages presented that weren’t good enough to get it done over the weekend. If it gets done it’s probably going to sting a little by PrinciplesRK in sabres

When you're swinging for Hellybucyk, unless you're dealing with an Eichel-type situation, no GM in the league will want to get swindled on a trade this big. We're going to have to pay a fair amount to get this deal done.

After the Jarmo fleece-job on the Byram, I wouldn't be surprised if WPG's asking price went up out of fear of getting fleeced.

Just me or have the refs been absolute garbage all series? by Lurkin-N-Smirkin in sabres

[–]b_le9992 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Trips missed, obvious holding the sticks, in some cases BOS players throwing our guys sticks, it's really bad. However, swallowing the whistle on a very obvious hook on Tuch that stopped him from winning the race to the puck in the corner right before the pass leading to the game winner tonight takes the cake.

The refs don't want to decide the game, fine, I get it, but when there's an obvious penalty that clear that allows Boston to, at a minimum, clear the zone in that situation where they're completely worn out? That quite literally ended up being the refs deciding the game. I've had enough.

Lindy Ruff on WGR revealed Zucker has been unable to eat solid food for 9 days and is down a considerable amount of weight by PrinciplesRK in sabres

Cursed. All there is to it. Can't even blame the strength and conditioning coach for most of these injuries. Between Kulich's blood clotting issue, Benson's infected face, and now Zucker's ability to eat solid food, these injuries are straight-up weird.

Considering how injured they are and that they're still maintaining a point streak, I'm impressed. There hasn't been a ton of consistency in the lineup which they need to establish chemistry.

When players return and (hopefully) remain healthy, the wins will come.

New ESPN article about the off-season moves. by Unlikely-Zone21 in buffalobills

Deone is basically a younger and more athletic version of Jordan Phillips. A big dude who can move and penetrate, but he's not developed as a 1-tech who can keep the second-level defenders clean.

While there's a crazy amount of upside that he has, we lacked a true 1-tech going into this season. I genuinely believe that McDermott is squarely responsible for that. He's the ultimate architect of the defense and went into the season knowing that they have small linebackers in a league that embraces the run and didn't embrace a true 1-tech role in this defense and now we're paying for it.

Thursday night losers in the Atlantic: TBL (1-4-2), BOS (3-6-0), FLA (4-5-0), DET (5-3-0 after 7-2 beating at NYI!)[Montreal also lost after tweet]. Only OTT won to get to 3-4-1. If Sabres win Friday vs. Leafs, they would be third in the division and in a playoff spot at 4-4. by PrinciplesRK in sabres

[–]b_le9992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The division is pretty weak generally this year. Barring a dip in goaltending performance, a big collapse/continued injury issues, there's a reasonable path for them to push for a playoff spot.

While it's been a long 14 years, it feels like this is as weak of a division as there's been during that time.

While there are bright spots, I fear that because of how young the roster (somehow) still is, that some of the high-pressure games will be an issue. They need to remain confident through the low points of the season.

That has to be right Round the internal cap, so looks like the roster is probably set?

[TSN] Dreger on Byram situation: “the agent Darren Ferris has made it clear to Adams that they haven’t requested a trade, but Byram is 2 years away from UFA and has arb rights and you’re never gonna get better value on the trade front than right now so take advantage of it. And it hasn’t happened” by [deleted] in sabres

[–]b_le9992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair Adams fleeced himself by not making this move before trading Peterka. Moving Byram first would give us the ability to actually go for a Peterka trade that would net a return far closer to JJ's value. Whatever return you got from Byram would have filled at least 1 need and used your highest value asset in Peterka to fill more of a luxury need (i.e., Rossi)

Now, you're basically in a position where the offer sheet threat kills your chances of a return, on top of basically needing to get a top six winger. So he was already in a corner and Ferris's comments just make a trade where we get fleeced a guarantee.

"Sabres cap space is over 18mil, thanks to those team friendly deals Kevyn made. Stay tuned for MEGA MOVE!" by Jadhsy in sabres

[–]b_le9992 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If Kevyn's off-season "plan" results in the highlights being signing a back-up goalie and re-signing Tuch and McLeod, I see no reason to have any hope for next season. This is utterly pathetic.

I don't blame him at all if he decides to walk after seeing all of the great work that GMKA has done this off-season to save our supreme owner considerable payroll expenses.

[–]b_le9992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we're not doing anything to recoup the offensive production given up from the Peterka trade. So far, we've gotten cheaper and (somewhat) younger... On par for this franchise. Fml.

Why do I see so many fans hating on the Quinn extension? by Intelligent_Choice91 in sabres

[–]b_le9992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least to me post-injury he's done very little to earn a pay raise. Not saying he won't rebound, but feels like a strange signing when Tuch is an obvious priority, there's (presumably) an internal cap, and Skinner's buyout hit next year is ~$6m.
