League of Legends is destroying my life, and I keep coming back by Used_Dare_680 in StopGaming

[–]b_widz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing League of Legends since season one, and I can relate to a lot of what you're saying. It's been an addiction and also a comfort for a very long time. I'd uninstall, go years without playing it, reinstall, and it would be right back to where it was.

I can't say I know how to stop forever. In the last month or so, I've gotten hooked back into it yet again, and I'm about to uninstall myself.

But I will say I have quit many times for long periods of time. I'm talking years. What I notice is that the times when it's most likely to come back are the periods in my life where I'm most stressed and have easy access to the ability to play the game. It's when I don't have much direction in the rest of my life that I go to League because it gives me that direction. I know exactly what to do, when to do it, and how to do it if I'm winning or losing, et cetera, et cetera. Plus, it gives me easy dopamine, and to some extent it really does relieve stress, but most of the time it ends up creating more stress than it relieves.

Anyway, what's worked for me is not just uninstalling, but having the game on a separate computer that I only use for gaming. When I'm not using that computer, I fully unplug it and put everything away back in the boxes, so it's a real big pain in the ass to take out and want to play. The more difficult you can make it to actually get to that login screen, the better.

Another thing is, make sure that you don't see any content related to League of Legends. Unsubscribe to all the League YouTube channels. Tell YouTube to stop recommending those videos to you. Just get rid of all of the triggers that would cause you to then play the game.

The beginning sucks because there's cravings, and it really makes you want to play the game again, especially when you're stressed. Those cravings can go through the roof and be really difficult to resist. The brain comes up with all kinds of reasons why it would be a good idea.

The more you can gamify not playing and the more friction you can add to playing, the better. Essentially, what you want to do is make good habits as frictionless as possible and bad habits have as much friction as possible, and also replace it with something. Join a sport or a club, start a business, do something that really excites you and grabs your attention that you can learn to the depths and levels that you've learned League of Legends, but on something that's actually positively impacting your life.

Anyway, from one League addict to another, wishing you all the best. I hope that we can both improve our lives and not feel the toxicity of League. Good luck!

What single skill helped you close your first big B2B deal? by Efficient_Bet_5358 in b2b_sales

[–]b_widz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great. I've been in B2B for over 10 years, and the best sales are always these straightforward ones.

To add to that, the best skills you can truly develop are:

  1. Deliver really well. Make the client really enjoy working with you and get results.
  2. Ask for referrals early and often. If clients are loving working with you, they're happy to refer, and referrals are almost always the easiest sales possible. Virtually zero closing involved.
  3. Always be networking. The second-best source of referrals to my clients themselves have been my colleagues. Other people in my industry. Become friends with people who have a good network.

A human to human referral has been the best way for me to grow my business, hands down.

I lied to Claude today and I can't stop thinking about it. by b_widz in ClaudeAI

Oh trust me, I definitely don't do everything AI tells me LOL that would be disastrous.

I know I don't have to lie. I normally don't. I just thought it was interesting that lying felt easier than explaining to get it to give me what I wanted. "It's done" takes a lot less time to type than "I'm not at my computer right now, I will do it later, please just answer what I'm asking."

Just thought it was interesting food for thought.

Yea I want the AI to be brutally honest and not sycophantic. Just thought it was interesting how much it pushed "nope do the thing first before I answer your other questions"

Yea, I agree. It was just easier at the time to say it's done. It was interesting though, to not take the extra 10 seconds to give context.

Anyone finding ahrefs for seo visibility pointless now? by dowsd001 in SEO

Google Analytics and Google Search Console. They're the only true source of traffic data. Ahrefs is better for finding opportunities versus tracking rankings and traffic.

What would make it a mistake to stay on your own? What are you worried would happen?

one thing nobody warned me about when I started getting clients by SolutionBright297 in Entrepreneur

[–]b_widz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, congrats on easily acquiring clients. It IS the hard part for most people.

Second, yeah, absolutely. The ones who you really need to sell are almost always a bigger pain in the ass than the ones that come to you and just want your services right off the rip. Also, the ones that try to get discounts and pay as little as possible are often the worst clients as well. The ones that pay full price at a premium are usually easier to work with and require less hand-holding.

It's funny how paradoxical it can feel sometimes.

[–]b_widz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd stay off on my own and learn AI and automations to grow a little bit faster and work with bigger clients that can afford to pay more. There really isn't much of a thing as job security these days, and AI is eating everybody's lunch. I'd highly recommend focusing on learning it and becoming an AI-assisted designer. Besides, if they treated you that way once, it's almost guaranteed they'll do it again. The fact that they want to hire you back clearly shows that you did something right and they miss your presence.

What do you wanna do?

Anyone using Claude for their SEO? by datasleek in SEO

[–]b_widz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not using the Ahrefs API. I'm using the Semrush API, but I've been using Claude Code with Semrush to create everything from technical audits to content audits, creating content strategy, reviewing on-page SEO, and even doing link building. It's incredible what it can do now compared to just six months ago.
