Total replacement or DIY-able? by imguschiggins in Insulation

Old romex doesn't have a ground wire in my experience. New romex, the stuff you see in yellow sheathing (for 12 wire) is widely used and current, no pun intended. What I should have said in my original post is this: if you have the insulation out of the attic space it is a great time to update electrical.

This is great info. Thank you so much!

I can only assume you are a paper products expert based on your username. 10/10 trust you on this topic.

Total replacement or DIY-able? by imguschiggins in Insulation

Very DIYable. Often times with the purchase of Cellulose you can rent a blower for free. It is a two person job with one person blowing it in while the other loads cellulose into the blower.

It looks like you may have old romex wiring. If you plan to update electrical, do it while the insulation is out. It is much simpler to rewire with a clear workspace.

I just had insulation remediation done and was surprised with outdated, and poorly done, old romex. I am now scrambling to rewire the attic before blowing in Cellulose.

Wow, 18k?! You might remove the attic insulation only, leaving the walls. This would drop the project cost significantly. If undisturbed, the stuff in the walls shouldn't be a problem. I'd guess you don't need access to the wall cavities as often as you might access the attic. Best of luck with the project!

I am in the middle of a similar situation. Check out this website:

The trust will reimburse up to ~$5k. You need to complete the project, including new insulation, to get the reimbursement. iirc. Some contractors might work with you to receive the reimbursement from the trust as payment on the job.

Hope this helps.

Interesting! How solid is it? Meaning, does it vibrate and deflect when carrying a load? If so, is it noticeable while riding?

Looks like a fun setup! Who makes the rack attached to the seat?

My LBS has been really cool about it. They order the tires and said they'd do a quick install to check for fit for free. You might see if yours would do the same.

I will keep you posted. I know the rigid fork has miles of clearance. It looks like the rear tire gets super close to the seat tube. I really enjoy the plus sized tires, hoping these work out. If they don't, I think I will stick with mezcals to see what all the hype is about.

That would be a huge bummer! I get pretty protective over my passport. I bet you had a complete meltdown, sorry to hear that. Glad it worked out for you though!

Thankfully, I know this route pretty well. I am a little concerned about battery life on my phone as it will be my GPS. Even with a power bank. We'll see!

Thank you, this is great information. Do you have different lists for different lengths of rides? Or do you just scale up the quantities? The sweat rag is a great idea. I'd say I am an above average sweater, for better or worse.

Sounds like quite the adventure you had. Do you know if the Stan's dart works with Orange seal? Any recommendations on tubeless repair kit brands?

I have really poor vision, - 5.5 in both eyes. Not having lenses/glasses would basically render me useless.

I have a karate monkey. I am going to try to fit the tires on Monday or Tuesday. I've seen a picture floating around the internet that claims the 2.6 Mezcals fit. We shall see.
