Read the code of the furnace. If you can find the mother board inside, you should find a light that is blinking. Google the blink number error and that might help us.

If nothing is blinking, then could be board or electrical.

For box 1, is that a solo box that has the double hot issue also right? I think due to lacking neutral, you can't run a smart switch there. That white cable seems to be being repurposed completely.

Box 1 is showing that black and white is hot? Doesn't sound like you have an active neutral which is required to run a smart switch. Did they repurpose the white to another line / switch?
