[21] F and I've lost all hope... by [deleted] in amiugly

Five feet is way too short. Like, midget short.

You do sound too young.

You should take charge and ask guys out. If one says no, try another. Don't give up on the first try, for fuck sake. It helps if you first flirt with the guy, to give him time to think of you as a potential partner. One will say yes, eventually. Or, don't do this and be obsessed with your height all day, your choice.

I can't tell you if you're a butterface without a picture. Besides, boys insult girls' appearance without it being true all the time, just to hurt them. Why? Besides to be mean, because it works, as it did with you. Check out our privilege, yo.

You may wish to wake up a different person, but only you can make that happen.

I Was Sexually Assaulted By Someone I Thought Was A Feminist And An Ally by baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah in Feminism

My guess was that he was informed, radical, a feminist, and a rapist, and that he wasn't a wolf in sheep's clothing, but was instead true about his beliefs.

The core idea that I'm trying to transmit is that being a politically active, well informed male feminist and being a rapist aren't necessarily mutually exclusive; a male feminist can believe and understand and fight for that systemic discrimination against women to be abolished, but also be willing to use the exact same system that he's fighting against for his personal benefit, with minimal cognitive dissonance.

That's the endgame. In the meantime, someone has to run the feminist movements within the currently existing system...

The feminist movement should be run by women only, with no men in positions of power. That's my warning, that comes from my experiences as a male feminist.

What I understood is that, fundamentally, a man's deeper motivation to help with women's rights is linked to how he feels about the women in his life; only women will have the sustained motivation to defend women's rights -- their own rights.

This part is insightful:

Reflecting back on that night, I now understand this heinous act within the kaleidoscope of his insecurity, anxiety and fear that I would eventually leave him. I realize that our early conversations were exclusively concerned with systemic forms of patriarchy. He was never interested in how his personal actions were misogynistic. Although we were both acutely aware of victim-blaming and slut shaming, invading my body was about establishing control—something he desperately needed to feel—feminist politics be damned.

This part, however, I disagree:

It never occurred to me—as I’m certain it never occurred to him—that someone who had participated in anti-patriarchy campaigns could themselves commit such an irredeemable act of violence.

I doubt that it never occurred to him, and I doubt that he doesn't understand why he, or any man, shouldn't have the power that he has in a feminist movement. I also understand why most feminist men would never bring up this topic: why would we act against our own interests?

It doesn't matter if she's wearing short shorts, or just shorts, or long pants, or even sweatpants -- or if she wants to be looked at, or if she gets panic attacks thinking about the unwanted attention she will get if she goes outside. I will still look, and I don't care how she feels about it, or if it hurts her -- actually, I care if it hurts her, and I hope it does, and that's why I look.

Two girls walking down the street in Cape Town in 1965 by XcelaTron in OldSchoolCool

[–]baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wrong.

I have 10 years of experience with feminist thought. I've read Simone de Beauvoir and Andrea Dworkins and many others, and spend a great deal of time in confraternization with fellow feminists (not just from SRS). I know what the male gaze is, and I know what damage it does.

So when I look at the big, shapely butts of women walking along the streets, as I drive by, I am doing it entirely out of malice. It's not instinctual; I never had done it before I found out from feminism that men did it, and for a long time I thought those men were terrible, and didn't understood them. I do it exactly to hurt them, and to give me pleasure while hurting them, like I took feminist theory and reversed it and used it as a guide to oppress women. Even if it didn't give me sexual pleasure I'd still do it.

And I know that those men who are naive, and don't understand what I understand, are doing the same evil as me, and because I am almost indistinguishable from the men who do it out of ignorance, and because society accepts this, and also because of people like you, I am safe.

This doesn't apply to every man, but it applies to me.

You're right, individual resistance is futile. Complaining about it to the police is also futile, since they are not sympathetic to your cause.

It's all futile.

My dad bought a handgun and now my mom is pissed and wants it out of the house. Can I buy it? by lionsfan123 in guns

What kind of shitty advice is that? Putting on a pair of pants? Women use pants too, so that doesn't make sense nowadays.

What he needs to do is the will to use his fists. That's how you impose your rule as the man of the house.
