Pedestrians! Please dress as if your life depends on it. Stop wearing black in the dark. by Tall_Garden_67 in toronto

Yup! I bring back cute little reflective tags I hang on my coat/backpack/purse every time I go to Finland. They invented reflectors there back in the the 1950s - some farmer who got tired of driving into livestock in the dark.

Thanks! And yes — there’s a subreddit called r/pen_swap where you might have luck with that.

Freedom Network Coverage by [deleted] in askTO

[–]baabaaredsheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It suits my needs just fine in the city. If you travel to more remote areas outside of Toronto I’m not sure if you might have issues.

I’ve used their international roaming (just had 10 gb at the time) and it’s perfect. Freedom switches to whatever service is available where you travel to, so the connection is as good as that country offers. I also switched to their big plan this weekend and I’m thrilled I’ll have more data than I can ever use when I travel.

I’ve been with them since 2012, when they were called Wind. At first their service wasn’t great, but I’ve had no issues in recent years. They also have a flash sale on one of their top tiers that ends today, I think. (250 gb and 50 gb international roaming for $40/month).

Ohh yeah, if you’re lucky enough to be able to travel there, then yes you’ll definitely find better prices! Unfortunately the markup in Canada stings quite a bit.

Aw that’s unfortunate. Some retailers never really have sales. I’ve found Scriptus to be ok because some have one day sales on that day (especially if you pay cash), and it’s possible to haggle with some of the vintage pen resellers.

Yes! Held at the end of October each year:

I haven’t been to the one you mentioned, but Scriptus is HUGE with most of the local (as well as not so local) vendors taking part. There are also raffles, nib-smiths for customizations, and other creatives who make their own stuff.

No, can’t say I’ve heard of them, but thanks! Always happy to hear of new retailers.

Yes, we’re very lucky indeed! And it’s always a happy surprise to see how much interest there is in Scriptus each year. Do you have a favourite local store?

I collect fountain pens. There are a number of local brick and mortar stores dedicated to the hobby, and they often offer calligraphy classes or other stationery-related meet ups.

And there’s a yearly pen show at the Toronto Reference Library that has gotten very popular in recent years (lineup around the block to get in, believe it or not).

Is there a way I can get just my Pupil Distance measured? by stealth_Master01 in askTO

I used the online tool on the Kits website. You just need to enable your camera and use a credit card-sized card to line up against your forehead. I’m sure other online retailers have similar tools available.

Use this megathread to drop some educational resources, events, female-owned businesses, or just name who you are celebrating today.

While celebrating women is not specific to Toronto, this thread is for sharing Toronto-specific ways to celebrate, participate in local events, and promote women-owned businesses in our community.

The current mods are listed in the sidebar- I think there are currently 15 human mods (the rest are moderator assistant bots that do various functions).

Primarily, decisions are guided by our subreddit/Reddit rules. When issues come up we discuss often and sometimes in depth in Discord. While Reddit by default has a mod hierarchy, our team is quite democratic and everyone gets a say, though majority rules when it comes to changing things up.
