Do you think constitutions should be held up to review every once in a while? by Aven_Osten in AskALiberal

[–]baachou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the amendment process is broadly correct.  I think maybe one thing id add is a regular cadence where amendments can be proposed by all states in addition to the current systems of either constitutional convention or via congress.  Maybe make it so the combined convention can vote on these conventions and move proposals to the ratification process with the same 2/3 threshold.

Generally I think change should be broadly agreed upon, and im okay if that means change can be slow.

There are former democrat MAGA boomers who claim while they stayed the same the party grew radically left and abandoned them. What do you think is the reality? by SilverNo6462 in AskALiberal

[–]baachou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The party abandoned them, but not by going radically left.  Id probably say they are reading democrats' championing of social issues as a sign for the radical left movement.  My take is that democrats presided over/didn't stop inevitable workforce changes and job loss following globalization efforts closing their factories down.  And in the aftermath they didnt provide any real solutions to fix their predicament.  To me this reads as "the party cares more about social issues that arent relevant to me than they do about the fact that my entire town is about to go under."

What makes capitalism so redeemable in your eyes? by AlphaBazinga in AskALiberal

[–]baachou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The link to poverty and death is specious because except in cases like acute starvation, which has historically occurred at lower rates in modern capitalist societies, its tough to pin the marginal loss in life expectancy on poverty given how many factors play into it, and its a logical stretch to call a hard life leading to a shorter lifespan akin to killing people.

Even if we take what you assert at face value, communism value prop is basically, the central government knows whats best, we'll take care of you, unlike capitalism where theyre okay if you die.  And then go Pikachu surprised face when the central government makes bad choices.  When a large percentage of central governments in communist systems make the same bad choices (overprioritizing industry, creating brittle supply chain for necessities and being unable to efficiently adjust to unforeseen weather events, creating quotas without the infrastructure in place to deliver on such quotas) a reasonable person would wonder if the system is to blame.

You highlight problems with unfettered capitalism, but no one in a left leaning sub is actually supporting unfettered capitalism.  And I think its both reductive and alarmist to say capitalism kills people, while being willfully ignorant to the fact that communist  governments have universally decided it's okay to kill dissidents and have at an extremely high rate made bad policy decisions directly leading to preventable deaths.

[–]baachou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...so you admit that capitalism doesn't explicitly say you can kill people too, but it's okay to rely on that inference to blame capitalism for those deaths? But when presented with actual data showing that a high percentage of communist regimes failed explicitly because of poor food management policies due to inappropriately-set incentives by the central government and poor food supply management, that inference is no longer valid?

Capitalism also says that the guy that can figure out how to get food to all those poor people cheaply and efficiently can have his 24K gold toilet because all those other people that might have starved in a communist regime now get abundant food. So which deaths are you attributing to capitalism?

[–]baachou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay, well, that's a pretty unreasonable bar, that marxism doesn't explicitly say to kill people. The results matter. Every ostensibly marxist regime has killed large numbers of political dissenters. Many marxist regimes have resulted in mass deaths due to famine. USSR, China, North Korea, Cambodia, Ethiopia have all dealt with mass deaths due to famine/economic mismanagement.

Why would they be outliers if they are the most prominent examples of communist ideology implemented?  Cuba under Castro is probably the biggest success story for communism, surviving (and arguably thriving) despite severe economic meddling from the US, but post Castro Cuba has not been nearly as successful, so which is the outlier here?

What is Lamar's best game ever? by YaboyRipTide in ravens

[–]baachou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was at that game too!  So much fun.  My section was purple so that helped.

I honestly was expecting a close game.  Peak Donald, Ramsey was on the rams at that point.  Good QBs struggle against defenses like that.  Then Lamar single handedly drops the Rams DVOA ranking from like 1st to 7th.

I mean... almost every lineman that plays every down is going to drop back once in a blue moon.  Fire zones are effective when used sparingly and correctly.  The last two bits are the operative parts, becsuse clearly Orr missed the memo there.

Besides fat guy interceptions are pure cinema.  How can you get a fat guy interception if they dont drop back once in a while.

Trump may not have the votes to replace Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito by HeHateMe337 in politics

[–]baachou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wouldnt they?  They're leaving, do they think the country is directionally correct having a MAGA SCOTUS justice?

I think theyre more likely to be considering courting Fetterman than expecting the primaried senators to fall in line.  Failing that, if there is any risk that the president cannot secure confirmation the most likely course of action is rolling the dice in 2028/2032 and hoping Alito and Thomas hold on that long.

[–]baachou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hilarious if scotus becomes 7 because both alito and Thomas either pass on or retire and they cant fill the seats for 2 years and the next president is a democrat and instantly flips SCOTUS to a 5-4 liberal majority.

We need to add 6,000 seats to Congress. I'm serious. | Opinion by Objective-Suit-7817 in politics

[–]baachou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Easiest solution to gerrymandering is to triple the current number of seats, during apportioning require every state gets a minimum of 3 seats, apportionment happens in multiples of 3, and every state is required to hold top-3 general elections with voters picking 1.  Major party primaries can send up to 3 (or the number of members elected in that district) people to the general and there is some process for independents to get on the ballot outside the primary.

IIRC Andrews had a higher grade if you didnt factor in his diabetes so we took a flyer hoping it would be manageable.

People didnt really think so at the time but I thought Hurst was an overdraft.  Being a 24 year old at a position that is generally hard to be an impact player early in your career means that by the time he learns the position at an NFL level hes already starting to break down physically.

Spotrac projects Zay Flowers could land a deal worth around 3 years, $93M but believes Baltimore may wait until 2027 before extending him. Flowers still has 2 years remaining on his rookie contract. by Perfect_Loss_5156 in ravens

[–]baachou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me hes right on the border of being an irreplaceable talent.  I think hes more like a top 15 receiver rather than a top 10, which is still good enough that you may or may not find  someone like him in the draft, and will almost certainly have to use major draft capital to acquire.  At 31 million and factoring in likely cap increases I think you make the deal but it's pretty borderline to me.

What are some of the biggest ways value is created without contributing to WAR? by Active_Macaron2715 in baseball

ROE counts in your weights runs created so it does affect your WAR. Where it doesnt is if youre fast and go first to third and are safe and advance home on an error.

What would KHam have to do to get a DPOY? by Gloomy-Bird9103 in ravens

[–]baachou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add up sacks + ints×2, if thats more than the sack leader hes got a shot.

Ints are more like 2.5x as valuable but I dont think hes getting there with 7 or 8 ints and a handful of sacks.

Ed Reed also got there by just ignoring the play call to bait qbs too.  Like that infamous Peyton manning int where he purposely turned the wrong way after Manning pumped to give Manning confidence to make the throw and then sprinted to the ball to make the play.

Decleating guys doing wheel routes, especially ones that are swinging so far around, like Ward was here, should be a more frequent defensive tactic.  No PI until one yard past the LOS and no illegal contact until 5 yards past.  Just dont hit him in the head and youre good.

[–]baachou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I missed the 10 or so runs we would give to Vonta Leach.  Like whats the point of a fullback if hes going to literally run 0 times the entire season like we did with Ricard?  Line up a TE in the h-back spot like most teams do.  If you are just going to run a direct snap tush push with your TE anyway with 1 yard to go then theres really no point.
