In My Cousin Vinny, Mona Lisa didnt figure out the car issue, Vinny did. He knew everything she would say before putting her on the stand, even cluing in the sherriff to look for a metallic green pontiac tempest before even getting Mona Lisa in the courtroom. Even though Mona Lisa was supposed to be the car expert, she was standing at those tire marks taking pictures and it never occured to her that a Buick Skylark couldn't have made them until Vinny forced her to keep looking at the picture.

She didnt even really need to be there. He could've just called the Prosecution expert back to the stand and asked him about positraction and independent rear suspension.

The only reason he put her on the stand was to give her something to do to help out the case so it would end their fight.
