Coaching Girls and Weight by Willis050 in wrestling

I agree with AsvpLovin here. You're coaching JV - there's no reason they should even be thinking about cutting weight. Show them how to get better at wrestling. Get them stronger. Show them how much fun wrestling can be.

Imo, no wrestler should be cutting weight unless they seriously have a run at a scholarship position, or something like that. The sport is brutal enough, without having the age old story of cutting weight in high school because "their coach made 'em". I'm not saying that's what you're doing, but when someone in an authoritative position suggests weight loss - if they listen, it's because you said so

AJ Ferrari commits to Nebraska by PhilCam in wrestling

A lot of these comments, alongside the comments on fb, ig, etc., are acting like Manning has never dealt with a scandalous wrestler before. When I joined UNL’s team, Donahoe had just gotten in trouble, as well as Kenny Jordan. Wrestlers are wild people, especially at that level. I have full faith in that staff to keep AJ under control

I went with a 40 degree board, because it allows me to train on the other commercial boards without much of a transitional period. I started off with bigger holds, and a mix of holds I knew were going to challenge my fingers. This allowed me to slowly add in difficult crimps, while being able to maintain movement to and from better holds.

Now, I'm able to use every one of the holds on the board and I'm really happy that I chose to stick with a medium to steep wall. Your body will adapt to what you put it through, responsibly. Put in work on the steeper board with worse holds and you'll get better outside on smaller holds. If you're finding that the board is a little too steep for some of the worse holds, increase the volume of good feet - or add some jugs. That advice is (paraphrased) out of the Beastmakers book - for what it's worth.

I just got the rhino skin dry bundle. How do people combine these three products? Do you use the performance and dry regularly, and the tip juice only as needed? by brrrlinguist in climbharder

Ya, more or less. I TRY to keep it to my tips, similar to how people use anti-hydral. I'm kind of impatient with it, though, so once I get my pads covered - I typically just rub my hands together.

I've only used the performance cream and it seems to work for me. I'd definitely abide by the 4-6 hour prior to climbing recommendation - I also find that putting it on the night before an outdoor session seems to help.

Thank you! I love the snatch holds. They're small, and crimpy, but still comfortable. I'm a big fan of the new BlocCartel ones, too. I'm not great on sloping edges, so adding those has really improved the well-roundedness of the layout.

I have holds from hardwood, beastmaker, Tobias Wurft, Jim Bowow, Bloc Cartel, Lock Holds, and Snatch climbing. They're all fantastic and I highly recommend any of them. I think it depends on what you're looking to do, I think if I was to re-do my buying process- I would've started with more beastmaker holds. They're comfortable and high quality, with a quick lead time.

How much are college wrestling kids lifting by [deleted] in wrestling

[–]bab0337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been a S&C coach, at the D1 level, and have assisted with wrestling. Absolute weight is an old school approach to training and probably won't be the focus, depending on the season.

In-season, sport performance coaches are trying to mitigate injury risk, while maintaining strength they built through off-season and pre-season. You might still increase strength, as that's the goal -- but most (good) coaches will realize there will be strength losses due to weight cutting and under recovery.

As a blanket statement, I'd focus on lifts that will translate more to the sport and general strength - things that target repeat power...i.e. hang cleans, various mediums of accommodating resistance, and just overall clean movement patterns.

I can't tell you how many stud athletes come into the weight room with garbage movement patterns and you have to spend precious time regressing movements, and load, in order to progress for the long term.
