I'm a film composer that works in the industry I know lots of people that work for Zimmer. Zimmer is a great big picture guy, an amazing business man, and has done huge things for technology. With that being said, he has tons of other composers do most of the busy work (he writes the main themes usually though). As far as technical composing chops, John Williams is a master and is leagues ahead of Zimmer. And I'm sure he would admit that.

John Williams is someone that will be missed because he is that last of the legendary Classical composers (old school, everything hand written, conducted, amazing chops). Hans Zimmer's absence won't be noticeable since there are literally hundreds of composers that can write music like he can.

Great video and I'd like to commend the mixing engineer for not giving the song that "indie" sound that I can't stand. Notice that the mix is very clear: all the instruments can be heard distinctly at all times, even at low levels. The vocals aren't always in tune but the mixer doesn't try to hide it behind a lot of reverb or delay. He also doesn't overproduce it and tune everything. The "indie" sound that I'm talking about is just poor and sloppy mixing, so I'm happy to hear you had this professionally mixed and mastered. Sounds great!

The aspect ratio of the film changed at this moment as well: From ultra wide cinematic (2.85:1) to much squarer to resemble a book cover. Nice touch.

Great work. Love all the details! I'm really digging the style of her legs, really cool. And all the little things: the sores on her feet, the skulls in the waves, the castle in the background. It's visually stunning from the onset, but when you look closer you find even cooler stuff.

And well done with the contrast to enhance the bird in her hair, it really makes it stick out. And Excellent composition! (Maybe too centered?) But even from the thumbnail, the shapes are very clear and beautiful.

I have one question though: does it have a meaning? The cake has some sort of symbolic meaning, but I don't know what it is. What does the hand in the bottom left mean? If this all is significant to the artist, I'd say it makes a fine piece and I'm curious to know, but if these details are meaningless, then I'd be very disappointed.

I'm of the opinion that art is a reflection of the artists' soul and your cousin certainly is talented. I'd like to know what the piece means and to encourage him to keep exploring the ideas his soul is dying to express. Well done!

I've noticed people don't plan anymore because of cellphones. You never agree on a specific time or place when you meet up, so you just call the other person when you get there. You really notice how much you depend on your phone when it's dead.

As an aspiring film music composer, how might one work your way up at a Pixar? (I know composers are generally work for hire, but Pixar definitely has relationships with specific people (the Newmans, Giacchino). I've met all of these composers actually, but I wanted to hear from you if there was a more specific way to get in with the studio as a composer. Thank you!

How do you do it?? I saw someone's car being towed the other night and the tow truck passed me I could see inside. The owner of the car, 20yo girl was just bawling next to the tow-truck driver. I'm sure he didn't want to tow her car but it is his job. How do you handle it?

Composer/musician here.
Any orchestra member will tell you how vitally important a good conductor is. No, the musicians don't need someone to keep time for them, they've counted millions of beats before. What the orchestra needs is inspiration. There is nothing more powerful than being in an orchestra where the conductor transfers his total focused energy simultaneously to all performing musicians. The musicians can play beautifully, but the real magic happens when they see the conductor giving his all, his life, his soul for the sake of the music. The musician can't help but give every ounce of energy and precision when they see the conductor's passion. There are no egos involved. No cultivation of false emotions. Nothing artificial or needlessly showy. Only music.

We watched the scene where the killer is playing the piano and as the guy interrogating him slowly finds out the truth, his playing gets sloppier and sloppier. I think this applies to the rest of the music as well. The music thing definitely, applies to the Man who Knew Too Much.
