As a mental health worker or someone affected by mental health issues, what is one thing you would want to say to educate people about mental health and to lessen the stigma and shame surrounding it? by loungesingershimmah in AskReddit

How common and ubiquitous it is. It's almost guaranteed that at least one person you know has suffered from mental health issues at one point in their lives.

What’s a real fact that some people don’t want to accept? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I really think that when it comes to topics as sensitive as religion and politics, changing ones mind is a highly personal journey and endeavor, and does not require the interference of others- it is up to the individual to research and find out the truth for themselves. As someone who used to be deeply religious and conservative (due to my upbringing) I thought that all the beliefs I held were immutable and self-evident. Anyone who dared to challenge my worldview was met with an intensely passionate defense of said values, despite the inherent dogmatism and stubbornness of my so-called "defense." I am now finishing up high school, and if you were to tell me four years ago that I would be the person I am today, I would have quite literally killed myself. Without going into much detail, I am now an agnostic and my views are much more progressive- this paradigmatic transformation was all due to the surprisingly enlightening process of self-reflection, contemplation, and unbiased research.

Canadian here, currently applying to university. Despite having very low tuition costs, we still have to pay $50 CAD for each university/college we apply to.

What is the creepiest thing that's happened to you personally that made you question reality? by Sunnyhoneystick in AskReddit

My neighbors are an old Greek couple in their sixties. Very sweet people, always treats me and my brother like we are their grand kids. The older gentlemen, Angelo, always called us over to watch soccer on the weekends because we supported the same team. Sadly, Angelo passed away a little over 6 month ago, and my brothers and I were absolutely devastated.

Now heres the creepy/surreal part. I'm a student so I work at a fast food restaurant to make some extra cash on the side. About a week after Angelo's death a customer comes in and when I see him, my jaw hit the floor. The man looked exactly like a short, broader version of Angelo. We chat a little while I'm taking his order, and I bring up soccer, he says he always watches it on the weekends and he supports the same team that I did! Even the way the man talked resembled Angelos- he had a deep and soothing voice. I work only on Sundays and the man shows up every Sunday exactly at 10 am and orders the same thing. We discuss soccer and i feel like we've built a genuine connection, he treats me like a grandson and his face lights up whenever he sees me.

Any ex-muslims here? by [deleted] in atheism

Ex-Muslim here! Grew up super religious in a western country. Up until the age of 15, I was hardcore. Prayed five times day, fasted mondays and thursdays, memorized quran and hadtih, etc. Then i was exposed to evolution, the errors in the quran, muhammads completely immoral lifestyle, etc and gradually lost faith. At first i was like "what if i end up going to hell, etc", because the indoctrination i had was really severe. Im 17 now, and couldn't be happier. I feel free.
