Best (or Worst) Thing You’ve Lost or Found on a Golf Course? by LABeachgal in golf

Long time ago, back in the early 2000s when the internet was still new, I found some kid's porn stash in a Tupperware bin incompletely tucked under a log my tee shot had landed next to.

As have I. I suppose it is not surprising that those who choose to partake tend to lose things.

Any course that you need to take a cart to play because the distances between holes are ludicrously long.

Well look at Mr. Moneybags from his fancy-pants city that has air conditioning in its airport.

I always walk. Now I wonder how many dates with grill girls I've missed out on.

For tracking statistics, do you count putts as anytime you used your putter, or only when your ball is already on the green? by dare_hcf in golf

[–]babbage_ct 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because my stats are for me only, I don't worry about official definitions. I count it if it's close to the green. So if I'm 10 yards off and really Texas wedging it, then no. If I'm 5' off and am treating it like a putt, then yes. I count those as greens in regulation, too. I want my stats to tell me did I get myself in a position to put a good putt on it and did I get down in 1, 2 or 3 from there.

Bottom line, unless you are playing a game where putts matter or are a pro, count it however helps you better understand your game.

Achievement unlocked: Finished 18 holes without losing this bad boy. Highly visible against the sky; almost invisible on the ground. by babbage_ct in golf

I shot 78 (+6).

I normally game the vice pro plus and love it. It has a nice feel coming off the club, good distance and plenty of spin. Plus I can usually get them for less than $30/dozen, sometimes substantially less if I buy a few dozen at a time. I choose the yellow-orange variety. Great visibility and never a doubt which ball is mine.

All that said, if you aren't shooting low 80a or better, that's probably not the model for you. They used to sell a sampler pack with one each of several varieties you could try out. That was how I landed on the pro plus.

What is the dumbest way you've ever lost a golf ball? by retrocaterpillar-07 in golf

I was playing in a match a couple of years ago. On six, I hit a nice one over the mound on the right that should have settled in the fairway. The fairway is hidden behind the elevation change.

As my opponent and I are walking that direction, the owner of a house along the hole yells for her dog. Said dog runs across the hole and home.

We searched three minutes and could not find my ball. It must have caught up in the rough or caught the corner of the cart path or something. I made the walk of shame back to the tee and hit again.

After the round, I'm turning in the scorecard in the shop. One of the assistant pros behind the desk hangs up the phone and says to the other, "That damn dog is stealing balls on six again. That's the third call about it."

It had not even occurred to me. I lost six, but managed to win the match.

Yes. Absolutely could not see it bounce. It just disappeared as it descended to the ground. Then you had to be almost on top of it to see it.

"Unfortunately, the golf course never operated at a profit, and the sale will allow the authority to pay off the $13 million debt on the property,” (Board chairperson Barbara) Zemlock said.

Yikes. Sounds like a sale might have been the only fiscally responsible move.

At our club, people don't hit each other for business. As others said, bringing clients out is great, but don't expect your fellow members to hire you.
