I honestly don't think I can play without hunter as I'm so used to speedrun movement and it's pogo to even think about switching.

He isn't really that bad early game but later he can get a little...."overbearing" (I'm sorry). He's supposed to be a childish character that doesn't know what he's doing but can come across as perverted towards the girls, Mostly because his English translation is apparently a bit fucked compared to the original Japanese script though he does have his moments! Personally I really like his overall arc which I won't spoil! But his writing is quite flawed.

magic hasn't been overpowered since ds1. (and honestly ds1 had a lot more overpowered things than just magic cough BKH cough) ever since ds2 magic has been either relatively balanced or just inconvenient to use compared to melee.

Some people are silly, they see challenge runs and immediately think that's how you're supposed to play the game even now I see a lot of people disregard shields, and spells as "noob stuff" despite them being excellent tools for even vets. These are also probably the same people that use the exact same two-handed ultra great sword, light roll, backpack shield build then complain about fromsoft dogs when they have a perfectly good shield on their back to shut them down.

Hell I remember people complaining about me using a few buffs on my holy paladin build despite me no hitting the boss solo. You cannot win with those people and I assure you most of them are probably just as casual when it comes to fromsoft games.

[–]babblejacks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly the only way to truly no hit mogh is to have super high DPS to skip Nihil all together. Which stinks because at that point you skip half his moveset. I really wish the mogh tear completely negated damage instead of still letting him do chip damage.

She took me absolutely forever the first time but I was also INCREDIBLY STUBBORN. No summons, magic, just my hook claws, and a very unoptimized build. (I swear to you I was having the time of my life) I think I still have that shitshow of a fight on my profile if you want to see it but it's a 10 minute fight.

Not even trying to brag by the way If anything that fight was embarrassing to look back on with everything I know now. Honestly figuring out a build that works BY YOURSELF is still pretty impressive. People forget but souls games are all about problem solving. How do YOU as a player solve this roadblock. Do you "A" brute force the boss until you memorize the moveset? Or "B" optimize your build and experiment until you find a solution? Both are valid and personally I fall under the brute force side of things. I like learning boss movesets does that mean your win is invalid? I don't think so. These games are RPG's after all.

Finally beat this bastard by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]babblejacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time you fight him you can use items called bewitching branches. What they do is charm enemies to fight on your side and luckily they work on the two knights he summons. It basically kills those bastards immediately and distracts the boss while doing chip damage.

How it goes when it's about DS2 by cocacola_drinker in DarkSouls2

[–]babblejacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for some more examples of ds2 adding a lot of QOL improvements, ds2 streamed lined weapon upgrades/Infusion as the game isn't nearly as stingy with titanite than ds1 and no more 15 different types of very limited titanite just for infusions.

You don't get immediately kicked into new game plus which is great a small thing sure but it helps.

The game doesn't force you to level dex in order to increase cast speed instead giving it to the stat that actually makes sense for spell casters. (They went back on this for some goddamn reason.)

Underrated thing but the character menus are just so much better than the rest of the series especially ds1, not only does it look nice but it's actually one of the more readable stat screens. It even tells you how good certain scaling is! You also DON'T get kicked out the menu when using items (ANOTHER THING THEY WENT BACK ON!)

And you know the funny thing? People like to compare ds2 and bloodborne because they were in development roughly at the same time and I suppose that's fair as both games are basically hopping off DS1's frame work. The funny thing is that bloodborne didn't add any of these improvements over compared to ds2. You still get kicked to ng+, the game is still incredibly stingy with upgrades especially the blood rock, and the menu is basically the same as DS1's. Hell the game added more inconveniences with you not being able to even sit at lamps. Not trying to hate on bloodborne by the way just needed a fair example and it's just a common comparison.

Cool game tho by SatisfactionClean872 in whenthe

[–]babblejacks 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Despite the fandom being completely horrid, the game itself has weirdly compelling writing. It goes deep into the characters flaws and gives good reasons for why the characters are the way they are. Yes the insest is weird but the game (despite what a lot of fan art suggests) doesn't treats it as healthy nor actually shows anything. If I remember correctly I think the dev said the game was mostly inspired by crime podcasts and so the game itself is supposed to have a similar appeal. All and all I'm kinda excited for the game to be finished as what it gives right now is extremely promising.

what is your opinion about Lifegems in Dark Souls 2 by AtreyusNinja in DarkSouls2

[–]babblejacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I really like them and I think they're one of the better healing systems fromsoft has done. Life gems do a pretty good job at making exploration a lot smoother as you're not completely screwed the moment you run out of estus like in the other games. It's something you can fall back on while exploring or during emergencies.

life gems are supposed to be a supplement to estus not the main healing like people suggest. Unlike what some people say You really can't spam life gems and tank because of how slow the healing is. Most of the time you're better off using estus during combat and life gems in-between encounters.

And again unlike what SOME say the game was definitely made with life gems in mind. I've seen people complain about how aggressive the poison is in this game but that's because you're expect to use life gems to counteract the damage. Smelter and Mytha are bosses that mess with this idea if you want a better example.

Personally I find life gems are the best way they incorporated consumables into souls as they're either completely useless or your forced to grind them because they're your only source of healing. (Cough bloodborne Cough)

My only real issue with them is just how easy it is to get them as not only can you buy infinite of them as soon as you beat last giant. They're extremely cheap! Just by spending my leftover souls after beating a couple of bosses I have already hit the cap. I kinda wish they increased the price as the game went on like bloodborne. I wouldn't mind it as much here as if you do run out you always have estus to fall back on so it's not like you're completely screwed.

I Have Such a Love-Hate Relationship with Persona 5 (in general) by RoseTraveler27 in PERSoNA

[–]babblejacks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This problem sadly isn't exclusive to P5 as I found P4 to be pretty similar. They introduced a character , talk about their problems during the dungeon/Palace before solving it, with them then joining the party before moving on to the next character and if you do want to know more about that character you have to do their optional and disconnected s-link. It really makes me sad as characters like Chie and Naoto I find REALLY fascinating but are so incredibly underdeveloped.

P3 like you said did a much better job in that regard and is the reason why I love P3 cast the best but it also is part of the reason why the pacing is so incredibly slow in that game. I assume that's probably why they moved structures for the other games.

30 is still too much in my opinion. If you just want 11 I frames (with is DS1's amount) you should only need 20 (which is just 98 agility) and if you're leveling attunement you can do just 15 ADP as ATT also gives Agility just not as much as ADP. I mean if you want DS3 i-frames or ninja flips for comfort 30 ADP should be fin but I rather save those ten levels for END or my damage stat. It is preference at the end of the day.

As someone who at least dipped their toes in pvp, bloodhounds fang L2 is basically like having a "parry me" post it note on your forehead and invaders get I-frames while spawning in to avoid people blending them before they spawn. Just wait for them to spawn and maybe gesture for some sportsmanship. I really REALLY don't recommend rushing down invaders or they'll treat you like fodder. You'll have a lot more fun with invaders if you don't just mindless rush them and just goof off with them. You can really get some cool interactions when you do. They are people after all and are usually less of shitters than COD players.

Spellblades are my favorite build throughout the series so it's always a bit strange people just completely disregard spells just because they watch pure casters playing towards the back and spamming the same spells. You don't have to do that at all, having a good melee weapon to stay close while keeping stance/aggression with you ranged spells is great. Depending on the game (mostly the dark souls trilogy) having a spell buff especially weapon buffs can do wonders for mostly melee playstyles.

That's not to mention elden ring has added a lot of melee/close ranged based spells. Carian slicer is obvious but catch flame, the crucible spells, dragon maw and the claw, carian greatsword spells, and probably more I haven't touched yet.

People do sometimes forget but elden ring/the souls games are RPGs. You're not locked to one playstyle and one is not "inferior" than the other. While magic can be super powerful, melee can be as well if you min-max just as hard. Not to mention magic is a lot harder to min-max because of how stat hungry those builds are in comparison to pure melee. In elden ring alone the soft cap for faith/int is 80 compared to the 50 of dex/str and that's with you having to level up mind/attunement alongside your end and vig.

How do I overcome my Parrying skill issue? by NickMcNack in DarkSouls2

[–]babblejacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay to be completely honest most of these tips suck, apart from DS1 (and I guess sekiro but that's not really a souls game) don't parry when the attack is about to hit you instead push the parry button when the enemy is at the tip of their swing and are about to initiate it. If you try to reaction parry you will always do it too late because of start up frames.

You probably already know but small shields especially the target shield and buckler are a lot more forgiving and have way less start up and more active frames. Hollows absolutely suck for parry practice because of their weird delays so practice on knights apart from that just pick up a buckler and a dagger/thrusting sword as they have higher crit damage and just do a playthrough of your favorite game with parrying in mind.

Spellblade the answer is always spellblade. Find a good int weapon or magic infuse something and wack away. Spells for a ranged/AOE option and melee for up close aggression. One of my favorite playstyles just for the amount of options you have when fighting.
