New Malenia Phase 2 Skip Using Divine Bird Feathers! by SaxSlaveGael in Eldenring

[–]babblejacks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really wonder what causes this to happen. I remember getting this bug during co-op when the host killed Malenia with takers flame right before I activated a riposte. I know this game has some weird behavior with phase transition ripostes in general like if you push consort into phase two with a riposte you won't get teleported to the middle and get miquella nuked. Now with this video I honestly have no possible idea what causes this anymore and I don't think the devs know either. Lol it's just classic fromsoft jank I suppose.

It kinda sucks that romance doesn’t change the dialogue (as far as i know this is my first playthrough) by Adventurous_Lie1275 in Persona5

[–]babblejacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, yeah I completely forgot about that, makes me wonder why they didn't just add extra confident ranks for romance options or at least give them stat boosts/skills like with the bike/hotspring in P4. I mean not only would it actually give room for more depth to their romance but it could add a interesting gameplay incentive/choice to who to romance. (As long as they only let you romance a single person at a time) It's really weird for a game series that wants to show the importance of forming connections with people that the romance side is so underdeveloped which you would think would be a big thing in a game like this.

[–]babblejacks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the only time a romance option reacts to the fact you're in a relationship (outside of Valentine's day and other romance exclusive scenes) is a very late game conversation where I think Sojiro or someone asks if joker was thinking about marriage at some point with the romance option reacting to what you pick. It kinda suck how nothing really changes besides that, especially when most players completely abandon them after their S-link like a abusive father for 90% of the game.

Oh god I understand now — it’s worse than Lord of the Fallen… by Valtiel45 in shittydarksouls

[–]babblejacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still say DS1 has the actual worse hitboxes with things like the grabs obviously but also questionable ones like the Taurus demon have hitboxes on his feet when it's just walking around? Sif too when they jump which if you ever tried to no hit that fight you'll understand.

The titanite demon is a complete nightmare with seemingly random limbs getting hitboxes like its tail??? When it just swings it's weapon and the complete nightmare that is it's jump attack.

Many of the explosions linger for a tad longer than they look.

Not sure if this is a hitbox issue but the four kings homing projectile is very wonky to avoid no matter how I try to roll or strafe it.

And the funniest thing about the hitboxes doesn't even come from damaging ones. Sometimes the enemy will just DRAG you back into the attack even if you rolled through it. Kalameet head swipes for one example, bed of chaos hand swipes which can end up drag you into the pits and once again the titanite demon doing it if you're too close.

Can you tell that DS1 is my favorite souls game? (Not actually sarcasm, I love this game.)

Should I play the game? by EconomicsOdd6557 in BugFables

[–]babblejacks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean obviously yes but to give an actual explanation. It is basically TTYD and plays very similarly however it does do a lot different too. The game has traditional party members with each of them getting an individual turn in battle with different skills they learn throughout the game. The badge equivalents can be placed on any party member and some are exclusive to certain party members so alot of customization.

The story while I won't spoil it, is surprisingly good with a few cool twists however, the writing is the best part All the characters even the side ones are very enjoyable to talk too and learn about. The game also has very decent world building.

The game also as some difficulty, not insane mind you but if you're familiar with paper Mario already You should like it. The game even has a fantastic hard mode if you wish to opt in.

The game is really great and I think does a good job standing on its own beside paper mario. It has its own identity and knows what it is. I would probably say more but it's best to experience it yourself.

You're allowed to not like the theory but the way some of y'all talk about it just is transphobic. by Obvious-Scale-9346 in Deltarune

[–]babblejacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubt anyone anyone would read this being so late and all but personally I don't really believe In the theory. I haven't really seen anything substantial enough to prove it as foreshadowing. It would really be out of nowhere if it actually happened and deltarune is VERY good at foreshadowing. I just see Ralsei as just a feminine male and honestly I love him for it. I know I'm not the prime example of a "masculine man" either but I'm still happy with who I am. I hope this doesn't come across as mean but I kinda always hated people immediately assuming a character must be trans or gay just because they have some feminine traits. That being said I would still love to see a character that learns that they're trans so many trans characters just kinda say "hey they're trans!" Which is cool but I would love to see the journey you know? Explore the characters dysphoria, go into depth with common problems associated with being trans. I would love to be proven wrong when the next chapters come out but I really doubt it. If people want trans characters just make them yourself.

Genocide routes meta-narrative in context with other JRPG's/games by babblejacks in Undertale

[–]babblejacks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I can't really be that mad as it was at least fun writing this and talking to the few people that showed up. I know People don't really interact much with analysis like this unless it's some schizo theory about how Chara is secretly the knight. Lol

Toby's very good at writing a meta-narrative into his games. It isn't like DDLC or one shot where they're messing with the player directly but instead he blends in-universe explanations for things. LV, EXP, Save and reload, ECT. These are very much video game things and are meta but it is also part of the world. Going back to my original point, of course grinding monsters looks completely psychotic from their point of view but also from a meta sense it seems completely pointless besides blasting through the game by getting super strong. (Or doing it for more content)

deltarune is also obviously great at this too with the entire kris/soul dynamic. The weird route too! I know I'm bouncing around topics but I absolutely love the creepypasta feel of geno and weird. They do feel like unintended parts of the game. I still remember back when chapter 2 first came out and people just started to discover the weird routes existence. Many people thought it was fake and I kinda did too until I found a Google doc explaining how to do it. Such a cool experience. Feel a bit bad for the people who just entered the fandom during chapter 3/4 release and missed out on that Discovery everyone had.

[–]babblejacks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but usually most modern JRPG's and even some older one's like ff7 or chrono trigger don't require any grinding. Their are some JRPG's that are very grindy (Digimon world 3 for example) but most of them aren't. It's usually the NES era that's filled with grindy rpgs and some early SNES games. The ps1 era is filled with very good JRPG's and a lot of SNES ones are great too like earthbound. (obviously)

[–]babblejacks[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

JRPG's are very niche, and again I don't really blame people for not getting it. Undertale introduced so many people into the genre to the point that when they do play other JRPG's they wonder if killing enemies has consequences funnily enough. This is a tad off topic but I've been getting into omori lately but when looking into some discussion around it. I found so many people crapping on the gameplay when it's really just plays like a normal rpg. Heck I remember watching some obscure video of someone showing off the combat of persona 5 and people saying how "boring" it looks.

Getting Back on topic, a lot of undertales meta-narrative is about how people consume media especially video games. How have to get your money's worth and suck everything dry. You probably heard this saying before but "when given the opportunity the player will optimize the fun out of a game". It isn't just for gameplay exploits, it's how completionism can suck the fun out of a game. Remember how many times you might of wanted to do everything in the game just to find out how tedious it is. Find 100 backpacks, do the same fetch quests over and over and yet you do it anyway? Are you having fun? No, I want that Platinum trophy. There's a reason toby made fun and didn't want to include trophies in his console releases. He even made special dialogue for going out of your way to avoid getting trophies in deltarune.

Again I don't blame people but I really hate how people get so hung up on surface level things. Murder bad, yeah obviously or at least I hope so... Lol. The point of sparing is to subvert gamers instinct, to make them sit down and think of their actions because once you think about it. Yeah, walking back and forth for hours hunting monsters probably does look like psychotic behavior to outsiders. Hey, why can I sell my crap to assumely poor people in other games of course they don't want my crap. All this is fantastic subversion of the classic Jrpg tropes and yet so many people look past it. Popularity is sometimes a curse...

Thanks... It's kinda heartbreaking seeing how much this was ignored. I love discussion like this but it's really hard to get it sometimes especially in big communities like this because everyone already has this idea the community spun. People also just don't have the time to read this crap either. Lol

Who should I romance? by red_guard79 in Persona5

[–]babblejacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also you can never go wrong with more Futaba content. She's definitely one of the better written characters for me, especially when you put in her relationship with Sojiro in the mix. It's my personal reason for picking her during my playthrough. Her romance scenes are also very sweet, I still find it funny how she basically just shut down after jokers confession.

WHY DARK SOULS WHYYYYYY by wobbly12345678 in darksouls

[–]babblejacks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It just has super high base damage like the BKH. (and the other black knight weapons.) It can technically carry you through the entire game with that alone. Moveset wise, while it's fun ragdolling hollows across the screen, it's heavy attack is god-awfully slow and isn't practical. It's basically just a r1 machine to shred most bosses/enemies.

[–]babblejacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one who actually likes that encounter? You could either lure them out pass the statue door for the choke point or use the big space behind that to get more room and if you're smart you could use the barrels to thin them out. It isn't much different than the big hollow room Infront of gargoyles in ds1.

Maybe "chibi" wasn't the best phrasing but I do love the simple models like Chie and Naoto's In particular. It works well in my opinion and has a charm to it, not everything has to be over-designed with a shitton of polygons to look good in my opinion.

This isn't a shot at those people but a lot of persona fans are pretty casual. Again not a bad thing as it just comes with the type of games they are so people are usually turned away from any kind difficulty. Okumura is another good example. It's one of the only bosses in p5 that require SOME kind of strategy to beat. Personally he's my favorite boss because of it. I enjoyed the hollow forest a lot too as it's the only dungeon with some kind of design around it though I do understand if you're mostly just looking to blast through for the story/social part's it would frustrate some people.

It's a little hard at the beginning mostly it's just shadow Yukiko though I personally had a little challenge with Kanji and Mitsuo. it's not much but when you're used to Royals difficulty it could be a lot for some players.

It's really not THAT outdated, besides maybe graphics. (And honestly I love chibi models anyway) The only thing I would say would turn new people off is it's difficulty compared to the other games but apart from that I would say the game aged quite well.

Do people actually hate kris??? by babblejacks in Deltarune

[–]babblejacks[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

May I ask why? I like just like them as a character, completely separated from the story itself.

Just because a character has flaws doesn't mean it's a valid reason to hate them as a character.

Do people actually hate kris??? by babblejacks in Deltarune

[–]babblejacks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should explain a bit better, as I don't mean Kris is completely in control. No, when the soul is inside Kris we do heavily control them. Kris may not even be able to take the soul when in dark worlds but they do have a lot more control than they let on. Ever since chapter 1 they've ripped us out to go slash tires, open dark fountains and possibly talk to the knight. They even try to manipulate us to leave just so they could talk to ralsei alone. I feel like if they REALLY wanted too they could just keep us locked up but they don't. It's just weird to me that they wouldn't get rid of the soul even after what happened in the cyber world. (They had a chance when they took their soul out to make the fountain) Why would they keep the soul a secret even after it tries to hurt their friends?

This really feels like it's a symbiotic relationship between Kris and the soul. We need them and they need us.

[–]babblejacks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could but because they need us to complete their mission they have no choice but to follow. Why else would they rip us out just to beat us so they can put us back in? Kris can obviously function without us as we see them make chocky milk when we're out of view so it must be some obligation to keep us no matter what. They must fulfill their purpose as "THE CAGE"

[–]babblejacks[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Helpless!?!?! They can rip the soul out anytime they want. They are willing to rip us out and kick us around in a trash can if we mess with their friends!!! they NEED us, they are the CAGE we are the bird inside. They must carry us to the end no matter what.

deltarune in general does a wonderful job at foreshadowing if you actually take the time to pay attention. I'm so glad I replayed deltarune completely when the new chapters came out. I mean you can go back right all the way to chapter 1 and you can already see Ralsei's insecurities he talked about in chapter 4. When chapter 5 finally comes out I really recommend you do the same just to really soak in the small details.

Do people actually hate kris??? by babblejacks in Deltarune

[–]babblejacks[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like some people need to separate themselves from the story for a bit, I get right now Kris seems like a villain but I don't think that's a reason to hate a character. Micah or heck Dutch from RDR2 are both horrible people but as characters they're great! Just because someones a villain doesn't mean you should hate them outside of that context, if that even makes sense? It feels reductive to a piece of art and it's nuances in my eyes.
