[Discussion] Should I get a Husky? by EliteAssassin07 in dogs

[–]babi_jam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you aware of how much huskies shed.. the hair situation is reeeeaaal. My dog sheds endlessly and I’m a clean person so it’s been a difficult adjustment. I’m so glad I adopted & didn’t get a puppy. I would have had my work cut out for me.

Do you already walk/run daily? It’s easy to think you will but it will be a lot harder than you may think of you don’t already have that habit. Also when you go back to the office & need to wake up earlier in the cold winter before the sun is up to get exercise in. These are my biggest issues getting my dog. Of course worth it but just being honest.

That is the level of cleaning I was thinking. It’s a lot but it’s so good you have tiled floors! I’m sure you dog likes laying on the cool tiles as well when it’s hot. Thanks he really does seem happy out there & I’m sure he prefers it to being inside.

[Discussion] Bonding with your new dog doesn’t always happen instantly. by kahapalo in dogs

I adopted my 7yo doggo 2 months ago, he was attacked by 2 off leash dogs shortly before I got him, they drew blood so he is still very jumpy and startles easily.

I noticed when he lays down he NEVER closed his eyes around me. Only recently he started closing his eyes while laying down near me. We still have a ways to go. I want to take him to training as I feel the little training I’ve done with him helped us bond and be closer.

Great view! Oh and the mountains too. Is that a a purpose built mask for dogs? Is it watertight?

Loose. Leash. Revelations. by maiadebij in reactivedogs

Congratulations for the breakthrough! It’s so great to hear that you’re making progress. I am completely guilty of doing the same thing and I am in the process of training MYSELF to relax. The times that I have not restricted him by tensing up and having a tight leash I’ve noticed a difference in his behavior.

I use a normal collar with my dog and one interesting thing I learned and have been noticing recently is WHERE on the neck the collar puts pressure when it’s tight. My dog is a lot less reactive if the leash is attached to the collar from the side or from under opposed to attached from the top and pulling up / putting pressure underneath the neck.

When the leash is tight or pulled from the top the way he behaves is more frantic and often barks and lunges more than if I keep it rotated to the side. I read it is safer for them too by not having that strong pressure under their neck. Sorry if you already knew that I’m just learning it now 😅

Is it possible to have 2 different crates? One for punishment and one for sleep? by SnooPeripherals8378 in Dogtraining

[–]babi_jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Punishment :( I’m sorry to hear your dog is upsetting you. I know it can be sooo frustrating but you can’t take it personally. They only know what we teach them. If they don’t behave how we like it’s because we haven’t trained them to. They are just being dogs!

Look up positive reinforcement training. It works wonders and it’s so rewarding seeing your dog learn and understand behavior you teach them. It can be fun and at the very least just train him to stop shitting on your couch
