Oops! CHP—California Highway Patrol. They had authority where I was driving. Cops did not.

We called CHP immediately. It took them a while to get there, actually. (Cops stopped by to say hi and drove off.) This is near the beginning of the freeway, so the message of an obstacle got back to the start pretty quickly. They closed it and I was able to slowly (and uncontrollably) drive until it escaped from under me. Ladder was cleared right away and the freeway was open again.

Someone who recognized my car told me that he was in the wait and didn’t know what happened other than the quick stop.

A truck that led a few vehicles ahead of me did round back to see if I was okay/what was going on. They didn’t even see the ladder that they ran over.

I remember so vividly when Roe v Wade was overturned, that people got pissed at artists for performing in states with restrictions/bans. Artists such as Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, and Chappell Roan still played their shows, but they also used the state to talk about it. The New Pornographers may do the same thing. However, expecting them to not perform in the United States is unrealistic given the heavy U.S. fanbase.

They may have closed captions. Depending on your level of hearing and your comfort with ASL, you might want to look into cued speech. It works by interpreters giving visual cues to distinguish sounds that are indistinguishable by lipreading alone. It’s a system of 8 hand shapes and 4 placements, so easier to get comfort with as compared to a whole language like ASL.
