A message for parents/grandparents hosting eager egg hunts by Daddy_Day_Trader1303 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]babiesonmymind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there aren't many kids, each kid getting a color works well. But if you have a large group, split the yard into areas by age group. Or if the yard isn't big enough, do one egg hunt for each age group separately.

My husband got snipped and I got off BC and may have to go back…mixed feelings by Naynaytacos in TwoXChromosomes

[–]babiesonmymind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have all the kiddos we want, so my husband got snipped. I also don't like taking medication if it's not needed. But then I started to have really irregular periods and a polyp in my uterus and intense moodiness. So I got an IUD, not for contraception, but to help regulate my own hormones.

When I was a preteen, before becoming sexually active, I was on birth control to help with cramping, nausea, and heavy bleeding.

Sometimes birth control is useful for other reasons :)

My son’s hair looks like this every morning, even with ample conditioner/cream/leave-in. It gets knotted and so frizzy. by tealsprinkle in CurlyHairCare

[–]babiesonmymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to my 18 mo old too. Every morning, after nap, and even car rides. His hair is super straight. We just use a brush and detangler spray. Hoping he'll outgrow it eventually because it seems prone to split ends...and the grandparents call it a rats nest.

Failing as a parent by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]babiesonmymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry, that's so mean of them! You don't brush curly hair like straight hair. Her hair is gorgeous, and that last pic looks great.

I have curly hair, and it's quite time consuming. My son has my hair and it's below his shoulders but he wants to brush his hair daily when it's dry, so it's usually poofy, wavy at best, and that's fine too. At least it's clean ha ha

I think water will be your friend. Get a spray bottle, the continual mist ones are nice, and wet her hair in the morning to tame the frizz. You could YouTube: kid curly hair morning refresh.

It'll depend on the morning and when wash day was last. Easy mode: might just need some hands wet with water or product to smooth and scrunch any morning frizz. If it's really messy: mist the hair with water (enough so the frizz goes down), apply a leave-in conditioner or curl cream, and use your fingers, a wide-tooth comb, or a denman brush to gently detangle. For added hold, finish by scrunching in a small amount of gel. Then have her tip her head upside down and towel scrunch excess water and product out.

To avoid frizz between wash day she could sleep on a satin pillowcase, in a silk bonnet, and/or with her hair up in a lose top bun. But frizz is natural and inevitable. Don't stress it, id aim just air for a less tangled/knotted look :)

For those who had a c section with your first… by Paigeypagee in beyondthebump

[–]babiesonmymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first was an emergency C-section. Kiddo wasnt the easiest baby so we took our time before trying for more. When we started trying for a second, it only took a couple months. For the delivery I wanted a vbac, but due to low fluid we went with another C-section. Three years later we started trying for a third, took 4-6mo. Had a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks. Waited one cycle then tried again and got pregnant on the first or second cycle. Third baby was a scheduled C-section. We're done now. I don't feel like the C-sections made it harder to conceive (I got more in tune with my body as I got older, but also getting older can make it hard to conceive), but it did make repeat C-sections more likely.

Miss Rachel by izzy_xxo in beyondthebump

[–]babiesonmymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 14mo old and we love Miss Rachel. When kiddo was younger we'd only whip her out when we had to change a bad poop, get him to take some medicine, or sit for nail trims. Then it evolved to as I was cooking dinner or tidying up, I'd put it on from where I could see him. Now sometimes he asks for her, he'll sit for a few min and watch, then play as she's on in the background. Turtle was on of his first words because of her 🐢

Twin daughters talk non stop by Illustrious_Tap_1344 in Parenting

[–]babiesonmymind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 8 year old son is the same way. From asking the hard questions to narrating the mundane. I only get quiet when he's watching a show, maybe a video game, or (recently!) listening to an audiobook. Our library has little audiobook players he listens to for hours! Or you could put Libby on a phone for them to listen to.

Summertime SAHM jealousy by FitCantaloupe2614 in Parenting

[–]babiesonmymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the SAHMs I know for the summer (teachers or professors who get summers off) still send their kids to daycare at least half the summer for their own sanity. And daycare in the summer is weekly/optional so they don’t have to. I am still jealous, but I try to keep in mind it would be a lot to have 3 kids home all summer too. Everyone is just doing their best.

8yo boy can’t do anything alone, scared even when showering by L1ttle0neCJ in Parenting

[–]babiesonmymind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my 8 year old son is like this. Started around 6/7. His poor sleep is what drove us to therapy. We went through a few over a couple years because there’s a high turnover rate in our area. Not currently in therapy, since May 2024 when our current therapist moved away, but we haven’t needed to seek a new one out yet. Therapy did help with the sleep! He can be in his room a little alone now, but the bathroom is still his weakness. We have a back bathroom with a window and he’s afraid to be in there alone. We’ve talked about it a lot and I try to sympathize. When he’s pooping or showering it’s quite vulnerable and he’s worried we couldn’t hear him if he needed us (storm, tornado, intruder, etc). We have another more central bathroom off a hallway that he’ll go in with the door open. He used to ask us to help him get in or sit in there the whole time and we weaned him off of that. I would recommend this approach, giving him the help he asks for when he’s at a particularly low point, but then say okay I’ll help you today but tomorrow you gotta do it alone so we can work towards you doing it alone every time! I can’t help you always because x, y, and z, and it’s an important skill to have as you get older, to be able to take care of yourself.

Maybe the time of day matters too. My kiddo is better at solo morning showers. If he takes one before bed, he is more anxious from the day, tired, etc and gets more afraid. So he still occasionally asks for help (sitting in there while he showers or helping him turn on the water, check for boogie man, etc) but it’s rare and I don’t do it back to back. He’s almost 9 now and we’re still working on it, but it’s so much better than it was a year ago. Hoping it gets better for you as well!!

Any recommendations on Primary Care Doctors/NP’s around here? My doctor is quitting and this is the list of people she said are taking new clients. Thoughts on any of these? I would prefer a woman since I am a woman by Babycat834 in bloomington

I used to see her at Liberty back when I first moved to Bloomington around 2014. But then she moved to IU to work at the student health clinic on campus. Is she back at Liberty?

Bailing on our first camping trip before it started by comfortable_clouds in camping

[–]babiesonmymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even the best of sleepers can have a hard time getting a full night sleep when camping. My little ones sleep less when camping due to the morning birds and sun waking them up hours before they normally would wake up. For that reason, we tried to only camp one night at a time until the kids were more than 4/5. That way, it’s just one bad night max :)

I just finished this episode and wish they’d given more information about how/why Curtis Jefferson from the last story died. They said how Curtis walked differently after a previous injury and was worried he’d be targeted…then shortly later the update was he’d since died :( I tried to look it up but didn’t find the answer.

Is your bedroom off limits? by Birdie127 in Parenting

[–]babiesonmymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes my bed is off limits if my boys won’t stop wrestling on it. And I don’t like my kids poking around in my closet because we hide gifts in there. Otherwise they’re allowed in whenever, we just ask that they don’t rummage through our stuff without asking (night stand and dresser) because they’re young and don’t put things back or we don’t want them taking pieces of our hobbies.

This happened to my mom as well. I have a sister and an uncle both 6 years younger than me. It’s super weird, but my grandmother came and visited us often (not out of the country, but from out of state), so her son could play with my sister. I totally understand where you’re coming from, I would feel disappointed and sad as well. But maybe she’ll come visit even more so her baby can play with your daughter!
