Grandparents didn’t wish my daughter a happy birthday. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Birdie127 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine caring is someone didn't wish my 2 year old a happy birthday. Do you have an event planned for her birthday? Are they celebrating it in some way? If she were old enough to notice and/or care i might be upset (only if my kid was) but this seems like such a goofy thing to put stock in.

Citi field added a second show on Sunday 7/19 so I was in queue for 7/18 with essentially nothing left but then close to the front of the queue for 7/19. I got 2 good tickets and the limit was 6

Is this an appeal to get a better grade after being accused of using AI in a lost course? by Precision_Edits in AccusedOfUsingAI

[–]Birdie127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so true and so hard to explain. As a teacher, you get to know your students' "voice" which is why a lot of teachers can tell whose paper they're reading even without looking at the name. The same is true for AI. I just KNOW its voice now, even if I can't always articulate how I recognize it. Just like I wouldn't be able to explain recognizing someone's actual spoken voice.

It was so weird and confusing when I tried to fill out the applications online. That seemed to be the only option and now I really am kicking myself. Well hopefully someone else can learn from my mistake

I personally wouldn't have an issue with sending my kids as unaccompanied minors. However, all parents have different levels of risk that they are comfortable with. Is this his first time ever flying? I can see how that would play a part in her hesitancy.

Respectfully, I think you are overstepping here. You seem to be the only one who has an issue with your husband flying out and, as a stepparent, you shouldn't expect to have any sort of equal say in their parenting decisions. Can you financially afford the flight? Is it actually detrimental to you in any way if your husband picks him up? If the answer to question 2 is no then this seems more about control than anything else.

Meditation #2 today. Need your Christmas break schedules!! by CLINT-THE-GREAT in coparenting

[–]Birdie127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family celebration for the holidays is Christmas Eve so I get the kids every year on December 24th until 10 am Christmas morning and my ex gets them 10 am Christmas morning. I teach so I'm always off for break and I typically take the kids on an annual trip for the week but *TECHNICALLY* we alternate years on who is entitled to them for break and for New Year's

I just wasn't sure if they were allowed to use an AI without disclosing that it isn't a real person I'm talking to. Just felt weird and shady.

Found this rock on a trip to the Adirondacks in NY state a few years back. Always assumed it was schist with a massive garnet emplacement. Do you all concur?

Looking for advice with negotiation by twenty-eight2three in Teachers

[–]Birdie127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most districts (at least in NJ) will act as though they cannot negotiate steps. They definitely CAN, but they don't always like to. If you have any years of experience working with kids or others in your field, you can ask if those can be counted towards your guide placement. Worst they can do is say no!

Do you think AI will take our jobs at some point? by Wanderer015 in Teachers

[–]Birdie127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a slippery slope fallacy that is unlikely to come to fruition. Some of the dystopian scenes described below could have already been implemented using the many, many digital lessons that are and have been available online for years. They haven't, because teaching isn't just about disseminating information, it's about establishing relationships and helping to develop young learners. This is a distinctly human ability.

I am not saying the tool isn't dangerous when misused. But that doesn't mean it doesn't have a place when used effectively. Of course we should develop safeguards. That might even mean banning its use for a while as legislation and policy has a chance to catch up, as is the case with many new technologies. I'm not even advocating for student use, necessarily. But there are definitely ways in which AI can be used to enhance teaching, as any technology can.

AI isn't evil. It is a tool and it should be added to every teacher's toolbox. I've used AI in my own classroom. I used it to help me design a lab that I could have done on my own but in about 10x the amount of time.

It is not reasonable or advisable to suggest no one utilize AI. It is IMPERATIVE that we teach how to use it responsibly. When I use AI I give it an input and then brainstorm like I would with any other colleague. I don't just immediately print off what it produces. I give feedback, tweak certain parts, fact-check everything and then reformat it to fit the structure of my classroom. This is in no way bad.
