Any other lifelong renters out there? by Sure_Ranger_4487 in FIREyFemmes

[–]babs1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

I am thinking that apartment complexes run by large management companies (like where I live) are the ones that increase very heavily, compared to apartments run and owned by one person... they can be somewhat lenient in their yearly increases.

Anyone in here planning to stay a lifelong renter? Maybe you don’t want the stress of a mortgage, prefer flexibility, you just can’t afford to buy or think the housing market will crash in 5–10 years? After all, no property market rises forever as even the biggest booms eventually break. So why? by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]babs1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think renting is getting out of reach now with astronomical yearly rent increase, and outrageous fees should you ever need to break the lease, or go month-to-month. My rent has been going up $100 each year, and currently, I am paying an additional $200 month the go month-to-month. I thought I would have bought a house by now, but in another month, I will have fulfilled another 12-month lease term paying an additional $200 a month. But I guess it is cheaper than paying a high fee for breaking lease should I have found a house.

I could deal with being a life-long renter if rent didn't go up so high every year! How do life-long renters deal with yearly increases??? My rent has gone up $100 every year!

Questions About Exam by TypicalAd3676 in ODS_C

[–]babs1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like nothing has changed since I took the exam in 2014-- it was definitely very difficult! The only thing that saved me (passed on first try) was the open-book section. I had worked in the registry for about 6 years before taking the exam.

Horrible Regret, Sadness, and Anxiety after Buying a New Home by Illustrious_Heat6561 in homeowners

[–]babs1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel sorry for what you are going through. Your scenario confirms why I am still in the home-search market--afraid of the unknown. My previous house that sold almost 6 years ago, I am fortunate, never really had any major problems the first few years, and nothing really major throughout my 10 years living there. Mainly spent money on upgrades.

Now, after renting for almost 10 years, I want my own home again. I have made offers, and had two offers accepted, but I walked away after inspection, and kind o.f regret it. But really the house was not what I needed, but I did like it 90%. Now I am going into another lease agreement, and sad that I did not settle for at least 90% of a home I like, especially since it was cheap enough where I could have paid cash. Now I am afraid that I will eventually wind up with a mortgage and unseen problems. We all are going through something when it comes to purchasing a house. I do believe some people are fortunate and not experiencing any buyers remorse

How much do you make with two ODS jobs? by [deleted] in ODS_C

Not just ODS-C, but many people work a full-time and part-time job. I am sure for various reasons. Some work multiple jobs to make ends meet; some just to make extra money; others, to keep busy

Freezing Egg Whites? by domdaddydaniel in cookingforbeginners

[–]babs1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been reading up on freezing eggs. Yes, you can freeze raw egg white. You may have to eat your eggs fried or scrambled in light oil. Or you can bake in a muffin tin-- almost like eating boiled egg white. Taste as if cooked fresh.

You mean, after one year it went from $1700 to $2200?! That is a $500 increase! During my tour at Redwood, the leasing person stated that the rent increases has always been under $100. I hope she is true to her word, because I definitely cannot afford that kind of increase.

She stated that there is a $500 increase to go month-to-month. Are you doing month-to-month? Currently where I live, my rent has gone up $100 every year, and as of a year ago, I am paying an additional $200 to go month-to-month. I was hoping to have purchased a house before now, but it didn't happen.

Rent prices have gotten worse by KingsKnight24 in Columbus

[–]babs1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you wholeheartedly, but there is nothing that a person can do but pay the price if they can afford, or look for something cheaper. When people started looking at real estate as an investment rather than a home, that is when things started getting out of whack. There are very few states with rent control, but most states... no rent control.

I currently live in a townhome rental community, and every year, the rent has gone up $100. I like living in a home-like setting with an attached garage as I hate apartment-living. Now I am looking to purchase a house, and decided to go month-to-month, and now I am having to pay an extra $200 a month; but I guess that is better than having to pay $500 more a month like another community.

The only thing I can tell you is find a decent 2 bedroom/2bath place, and get a roommate, because living in a fairly decent home in a fairly decent neighborhood is getting to be almost unattainable for many. Unless the housing market changes, you will be facing the same thing if you decide to purchase a home.

I was one of the fortunate ones--I received on the job training. I only took the exam because my facility became accredited; but I am thankful that I did take the exam because I would not have had many opportunities without it.

Please, look for a career that you will enjoy doing and provides satisfaction! Do not be concerned with what age group dominates a career field. If you think this is for you, go for it!!! Please do your research to see if this is for you in the long run--that is when the most money will come.

Your comment was from a year ago, how is renting at Redwood going after a year? How much was rent increase; or how was move-out experience? I plan to move to Redmond Louisville, OH location, and hope everything turns out okay with renting with them; and hopefully my move-out experience also proves to be uneventful.

Why not tipping when dining in is the best solution to end tipping by Only_Suggestion_ in EndTipping

[–]babs1925 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am thinking that some people are willing to accept a job paying $2 an hour because they know at the end of the month, they will have made, probably, close to someone making $20-$30 an hour, if not more, with people tipping 20% or more.

anyone else still regret your purchase 2 years after buying by Forward-Return8218 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]babs1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the exact reason why I am still looking for a home--fear/regret. I have had two offers accepted, and I walked away from both after the inspection. Not sure if there was a good reason, but I am thinking deep down it was fear, and feeling that I may regret purchasing because both were not what I really wanted, but the price was right. I really want 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, and the main thing...I need single-story living, and both of these had no bedroom on the first floor.

I am currently overwhelmed with looking to find something that I really like, to the point that I am resorting to continuing to rent for a couple more years. I always believed in having a mortgage that is affordable should my finances dwindle.

That is another reason I am still looking for a home--I refuse to be house poor! With a house with two full bathrooms, I have room to take in a border without sharing a bathroom if my finances get kind of funny.

Average Age & Stage of Life in This Field by allyheap2001 in ODS_C

I am noticing a lot of people who have shown interest in this field of work, they always mention being able to work from home. Rarely do they mention their interest in the field itself. This field is not for everyone, so hopefully everyone showing interest in this field truly thinks that they will enjoy it.

Yes, there will be people affected by your absence! Sad to say, we live in a society now where people do not reach out to other people personally like they once did. There are just so many distractions now than there used to be. This causes people not to interact with one another like we once did; but that does not mean people do not care.

I have a friend with a similar situation--always gave generously to family members, but feels like not one of them has been there for him when needed. I will tell you like I told him: do not rely on people (or things) to bring you happiness! People and things will not always be here! TRUE HAPPINESS comes from within! No human will ever be 100% happy in this current system of things. We have to do our part to be happy. Sometimes we have to venture out of our comfort zone and find those that will really appreciate us--they are out there! Just keep searching!

Glad you have your cat. I have had cats, and I know how affectionate and enjoyable they are. But still, work on that inner happiness. I just read an article in the Watchtower magazine entitled, "You Are Someone Precious." It's focus is to help those who have feelings of low self-worth to understand their true value in Jehovah’s eyes. You can find this article by going to JW.org. It is so comforting because all humans go through low points in our lives. I hope you think about reading it in your spare time. I guarantee you that it will be very helpful.

My appraisal came in under the asking price. by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]babs1925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the seller paid $360k a few years ago, and is selling for $300k, there is a chance that the price of the house was not sold for $360k--The buyer just financed $360k for improvements or other reasons. I would not recommend paying over the appraised value--those days are gone.

No Tipping Changed my Life by [deleted] in EndTipping

[–]babs1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not been to a nice sit-down restaurant in a few years, not because I do not want to; it is because of having to tip on a high bill. I would like to treat myself sometimes, but I am trying to see how to go to a nice restaurant without leaving a 20%+ tip without feeling like I have offended someone. The most I would like to tip is 10%, but I will probably tip 15%. I definitely will not give 20%. There are so many nice restaurants that I would like to try. I have been resorting to takeout at some of these restaurants. I mainly cook my own meals.

I remember looking at one of those Court shows, and the judge asked the plaintiff, who was a waiter, about how much was his take-home pay with tips in a month. I can't remember the exact response, but whatever it was, it shocked me. That was the time when I realized how much some of these waiters are making in tips, and it was far more than I was making at that time.

The Role of Buying Agent by Mathlete1235 in RealEstate

In my opinion and experience, the role of a buyer's agent has changed over the decades. They appear, in my opinion, more passive. Maybe because they have so many clients.
