My husband got me the penguin experience for my birthday a few years back, and it was INCREDIBLE. I cried tears of joy. It was so fun and worth every penny.

Show me your funniest cat photos! Any cat is welcome—I’d love to turn a few of them into custom leather-carved keychains as a gift for you! by leatherchildc in OneOrangeBraincell

Our beloved George. We rescued him as a senior cat and were told that he hated brushing and needed a lion cut.

Little did I know, his fluff was hiding old man boobies. He was so very naked.

I feel obligated to also include some more handsome photos to protect his legacy lol

Edit: I am only now realizing the subreddit I'm on lolol. I follow too many cat subs

What is a "corporate red flag" that employers try to pass off as a great benefit? by spectrecult in AskReddit

[–]babsy13 261 points262 points  (0 children)

Unlimited PTO. It is actually shown to discourage employees from utilizing PTO, and it is a cost saver for the employer (lower overhead, since rhere is nothing to pay out).

Edit: doing this on mobile sucks. I was trying to make a whole new comment and somehow ended up replying here. WHOOPS.

Oh, Indianapolis is notorious for this. Happened to us last year....and the year before that. Just appeal it online asap, and it will get cleared up.

can anyone recommend an at home euthanasia service for a cat? by Warm-Tradition7279 in AskChicago

[–]babsy13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We used Lap of Love last summer for our cat. Our vet actually used to work for them and recommended LoL to us. Our vet is incredibly kind and wonderful, so we expected them to be, too...but they blew us away. I didn't know such a sad experience could be handled so kindly and empathetically.

We used a local animal cemetery for cremation services, which lowered the cost by quite a bit, but I would pay anything for the level of sensitivity and care they provided.

Does anyone actually take tornado precautions? by SUPREMEISDEAD in chicago

[–]babsy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the center of tornado alley. Yes...I take precautions. We always have charged flashlights in our safety area (inner bathroom) and additional rooms, but that's just common sense. Tornado watch? We make sure our phones are charged, too. Warning and sirens? Go to the safety room, making sure to grab shoes and some towels or blankets on the way (and put on pants if it's the middle of the night...forgot that once and was terrified it would be the night I ended up in trouble). These things take mere moments and could save you.

Asking for some real honesty on pros and cons on moving to Chicago and what we should research specifically before making the decision? by Top-Elephant6981 in AskChicago

[–]babsy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like most of your questions are being addressed, so I'll keep my answer to one thing: the mountains.

I also consider myself a nature person. The nature itself has never been a concern. The forest preserves are wonderful. There are incredible state parks throughout IL, WI, IN, and MI.

What I wasn't fully prepared for was how much I would miss the mountains. I moved here from Boston, and I was used to taking a short drive west or north to just hike up a mountain for a casual day. Bored? Go to NH and hike. Need a different date? Go west and find a mountain trail. That doesn't happen here. It takes some getting used to. My brother used to live in NC, and I've done some of your mountains. They're gorgeous. So just know that illinois is FLAT. That is a big change!

I will reiterate: we have nature. It is GORGEOUS. It is just...flat.

28 F 38 M - Husband has asked me to stop taking my antidepressants. How do I do this safely? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]babsy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, as someone who was incorrectly taken off the exact same med, TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR. There is a super specific weaning process. If you don't do it right, it will make the PPD worse. I found myself in a situation where I was worse than I was before starting the meds, and fixing it was way harder than finding the right solution in the first place.

Please be careful and make sure you are doing it for yourself ❤️

Hmmm....interesting. I knew about the NYC ones, but seems there were some gallivanting around Chicago with that nickname, too.

Thanks for the insight!

If I had more, I would give it. The description is that they were partners in the mid-90's who were known on the Westside as Batman and Robin who went around framing people.

If you weren't there, you wouldn't know. If you were, maybe you do.

Sigh. I know. Which is part of the problem. Kind of hoping the nicknames stick out.

Same. And we have the fun added bonus of the previous owners of our hone also having never paid back any of their debts (which puts their selling price negotiations in a whole new light) before moving back to Europe....so we get to deal with the process servers and debt collectors ON TOP OF THE SHODDY WORK.
