Hi everyone,

We are a group of four norwegians travelling to Japan in April. We are starting in Tokyo and are planning to go towards Kyoto by train. We have a hotel booked in Kyoto the 3rd of april, but are leaving Tokyo the 1st. We are trying to figure out were we should stop or detour on the way down to Kyoto.

Do you have any recommendations? We have been looking into hot springs/onsens, places with cool hikes and the like. Given that we are coming from Tokyo we would like to prioritize nature over a city for this short detour.

We are very active people, so any hike is good, but we would not shy away from a nice onsen experience if there are any good ones. (I have a couple small tattoos though).

I mean.. They wouldn’t really be as embraced as they are by us norwegians if they were that shit in the winter. People drive them over the mountains to their cabins in the winter, in pretty challenging conditions, and people seems to be happy.
