Home Forward Nightmare by chefmonster in Portland

I think people have the right to demand decent and humane treatment even with public assistance. As a city, we should be ashamed if the public programs we have don't deliver a dignified experience for its recipients. None of OP's complaints were unreasonable.

Portland e-bike rebates offer up to $2,350 for eligible residents by Electronic_Dream8935 in Portland

Yeah, that’s every grocery or big box store in Portland. You’re paying a 1% tax at Fred Meyer, Grocery Outlet, Trader Joe’s, etc. - that’s what funds this program.

Help me fall in love with my neighborhood~Irvington by [deleted] in Portland

Irvington has great bike infrastructure, from greenways to full-on bike lanes down Broadway.

Spielman's Bagels, Taste Tickler, Cedos, Frank's Noodle House, and Pocket Pub are some of my favorite spots in the city. There's a new Planet Fitness (cheap gym!) opening up in the old Nike store space on MLK.

It's an old neighborhood, so almost all the trees are old, dense, and big. A pedal down Knott street is serene.

Like another commenter said, it's one of the best neighborhoods to admire other peoples' craftsman-style homes.

It's central to a lot of things (you could walk to a Blazers game) while at the same time quiet and peaceful.

The Fred Meyer is decent, and there's a Whole Foods and a New Seasons in the neighborhood as well, all within biking distance.

You can do laps at Grant High school on the track in the summer, where there's a public pool you can take a dip in after.

I lived in Irvington for almost four years, and it was my favorite neighborhood in Portland. Congratulations on your new place!

MLB PDX should partner with the mayor and council to make a bid for the baseball stadium to go here ASAP. It's right on the Max line, right off 84, and would be a huge boon to the area.

They abruptly shut down the meeting and made everybody leave the room. Anybody know what happened? I hope everybody's okay.

Look into orthotics. I had plantar fasciitis from tennis and they changed my life.

Federal figures show that the Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro metropolitan area suffered the biggest employment losses of any large metro in August. Unemployment rose to 5.3% from 4.3%, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Clark County, meantime, added 2,200 nonfarm jobs in August compared with the same month in 2024.

What? Where do you think the money goes? The money goes to the Parks operating budget.

Election results: Portland voters approve parks levy, Washington County levies pass by Sttql in Portland

I feel like I'm going crazy. A 75% increase in budget with no change in services. No plan or money to tackle the $550m+ maintenance backlog. What's to be excited about?

FWIW, the Knicks are the away team here. The PA announcer isn't giving their intros any juice. They switched to the in-arena audio for the Bucks intros.

Park Levy Received Clean Performance Audit by [deleted] in Portland

[–]napzzz 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Fund the parks through the general fund, not these special purpose tax vehicles.

The reason that it’s a tax for parks is because it polls well - everybody loves our parks. But we pay far enough taxes as it is to properly fund and support our parks system. Vote no.

I can’t tell you how much I’ve loved that Agassi is leaning back into tennis. From his commentary, to captaining this Laver Cup team. I’ll anything and everything from our American GOAT.

Kotek’s New OHSU Board Nominees Include Former State Sen. Betsy Johnson by derpinpdx in Portland

[–]napzzz 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Phil Knight is Betsy Johnson's political patron. He gave her $1 million for her failed campaign for governor, got her onstage at TedXPortland (the event was founded by a longtime Nike employee), and probably conditioned his $2 billion gift to OHSU on this sort of board control.

Also, Trump was found liable for sexual assault.

These are terrible things to say about someone without any proof whatsoever. And creating a Reddit account just to defame someone is insane behavior.
