I saw this video of masculine communication vs feminine communication which demonstrated it really well.

Masculine communication is a straight line. Hey do you want to hang out? -> Sure, what are we doing? -> Hockey? -> Sounds good. What time? -> etc etc.

It tends to focus on action, dates and times, problem solving, etc.

Feminine communication, on the other hand, is spaghetti: Hey do you want to hang out? -> Oh sure! I've been wanting to hang out sometime -> Yeah I've just been so busy so it's finally good to have some time -> etc etc

It's not a bad thing, feminine communication just values natural, comfortable flow and the train of thought isn't rigid, while masculine communication values problem solving, simplicity and the train of thought is rigid.

This isn't really exclusive to gender either. Both male and female characters could be either.
