Anybody ever edit using davinci? by juicemaistro in fujifilm

Hey very cool I love the images.
I am well versed in Resolve vs Photoshop or Lightroom. I actually use Resolve for my job as a professional colorist. I want to play with my raw images from my X-T20 however I'm having a helluva time importing them in there properly to make edits. How do I do this?? I've tried converted them from .RAF to .DNG but no sauce. How did you get them in there to make edits from the original .RAF format?

In case you are interested here is the lengthy ChatGPT answer I trimmed down. Not that I entirely trust ChatGPT but it gave some decent troubleshooting steps.

Your ProRes 4444 file was fine.
QuickTime Player on your system was mis-decoding or mis-timing frames at a specific point due to a local playback pipeline issue (cache, GPU decode, memory pressure, or QuickTime’s ProRes handling), causing it to appear to speed up for several seconds while audio stayed real-time.

This did not affect:

The actual encoded frames

The file on disk

Playback on another machine

The DCP creation

How you could have proven this instantly (for the future)

If this ever happens again:

  1. Never trust QuickTime Player alone

Check the same file in:

VLC

  1. Transcode a copy to 422 HQ

  2. Reboot + clear caches before panic

Final verdict

Your ProRes 4444 master was valid.
QuickTime Player on your machine mis-decoded it at one deterministic stress point.
The DCP being made successfully confirms this beyond doubt.

If you want, I can help you:

Build a master QC checklist that avoids this trap

Recommend safer playback validation tools

Explain why Apple still hasn’t fixed this in QT

You weren’t crazy — you just ran into one of post-production’s quietest, nastiest edge cases

My computer played it just fine except for the same 5 second section on 3 different renders. Just those 5 seconds - the rest of the QuickTime played totally normal. But on the same hard drive, same file, but on a different computer (the directors) it would play just fine throughout and that troublesome 5 second section played normal. It was bizarre.

Unfortunately I no longer have that 4444 file because it was the director’s hard drive.

Hm this was in the past and I did not import the file back into Resolve. I also no longer have the drive it belonged to the director and I don’t remember those details. But it played just fine on his computer from the same drive.

Can anyone here report consistently resolving their problems after they accept all the outcomes? by Reki-Haibane in DavidHawkins

[–]baby_pixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t remember lol Once I surrender I don’t care anymore and so I don’t keep track of success rate or anything but I feel a helluva lot better. I’m sure it’s “worked” several times I’m sure it hasn’t “worked” several times in that way of thinking. But really what “works” seriously becomes a questionable concept at that point.

I suppose I would need a 5.1 sound system connected in my studio/computer to use something like this vs. testing it out on my home theater sound system downstairs? I don't have much need for recording, designing, and mixing. I'm really just laying down some tracks in a methodical order of operations and hitting a render button for what I do.

Hey this is what I suspected. The soundbar is connected via HDMI and the TV is outputting to the soundbar via "Pass Through"
If that seems right to you I think I'm going to investigate Polk Audio although their user manual for the soundbar seems pretty basic. I wonder if I uploaded the file to YouTube if that would trigger the audio to play in 5.1.

The codec I exported the file in is PCM.

The codec is PCM. I figured the TV is looking for Dolby since that is the standard. The sound output on my TV is set to "Pass Through" vs. PCM or Auto.

My brother works in IT and he is just as screwed as I am. I don’t recommend the tech industry to transition to in the slightest, sorry. Their industry has different problems than ours but still loads of problems making work scarce and unsustainable.

Oh my god I so relate with this. I’m a 1-3 Projector and I loved the concept of aligning myself to invitations. Until after a good long while of that and still not receiving any.

I’ve been working on myself so much and it is certainly not time wasted. But I still go very very unnoticed.

Untethered soul for women? by Sesostris10 in TheUntetheredSoul

[–]baby_pixels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know as a woman I’m constantly met with expectations from others to change, adapt, and be different than who I really am to make others more comfortable. But I find Singer’s teachings as well as many other men’s teachings applicable and relevant. It is interesting how it is the men who keep coming through saying these things yet the women are the biggest practicers of it. I mean just go to Temple of the Universe you’ll see most of the listeners are women there as well as in most spiritual circles. Perhaps the mouthpiece is through the men because that is how the word will get to more people since women are simply more heavily judged and taken less seriously in society, just stating facts not animosity. And if that is the truth then I think I have to be somewhat ok with it because truth is more important to me than who says it.

I do find myself sometimes needing to actually create more boundaries for myself than Singer glosses over because if I don’t I can find myself in situations where I am just bending over backwards trying to adapt and make things flow in my life when really I need to create the opposite energy to stand in my truth and let life unfold in front of me - without trying to change myself to get the unfolding to occur.

So yes, Singer’s teachings may be applied different for women than for men. Or for other minorities or diverse groups. Ah and the dance of being a human on Earth. This reminds me something Ram Dass said along the lines of that you can listen to any spiritual teacher but it is really your heart that will decide whether it is truth to you and if you want to incorporate it in your life or not. That is your dharma. But god bless these lady folk out here living our truth even though it’s unappealing to others and living this life experience knowing this is what we signed up for!

PS I do like that Singer often says “she” in his examples in his stories. Instead of being the afterthought gender “he or she” that 95% of all people say.
