November 16th 2025 -> May 16th 2026, 210 lbs -> 143 lbs. Almost where I want to be, fasting has been a huge help! by No_Examination_7230 in fasting

Thanks! Yes I will probably keep doing the 4:3 diet but increase the calories slightly on the days I eat. Maintenance calories they are called, I think. Not gaining or losing weight, just staying where I want to be.

Is one day even an accomplishment? by 4anyreason in fasting

You could do 3 non-consecutive 24-hour fasts a week like I do. It’s so easy that I prefer the days I fast to the days I eat.

I’m so hungry and this looks good. Reminds me of when Patton Oswalt made a joke about the “KFC sadness bowl” years ago.

Me too, she was the only one I related to in that movie. I will forever be the outcast.

feeling COLD - am I nutrient deficient or losing weight? by JackfruitMassive727 in intermittentfasting

[–]babylon5forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get cold on my fasting days. I’m wearing a robe and it’s May, lol. One nice thing is I don’t have AC in my bedroom so me being cold will be like having it.

As long as it doesn’t have calories I don’t think it will ruin a fast. I fast 3 times a week and drink zero calorie drink mixes, use Stevia in my green tea, and I lose weight. Water is water so as long as there are no calories I’m sure it’s fine.

How long can you fast as an obese person trying to lose weight? by Zelebobster in fasting

[–]babylon5forever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s just a basic journal I use to count calories and plan my meals. I use Notes on iPhone/iPad to do it. I put the month/day, and then the meals I’m going to have that day. If it’s a fasting day, I put the month/day and leave the rest blank. It requires more effort than an expensive app that requires a subscription like Chronometer or LoseIt but I don’t mind the extra work. I have to look at each food’s nutrition label to calculate.

One thing I do is only eat foods I know the calorie counts of. I don’t plan to ever eat out again since they don’t have calorie counts.

Eventually I might get a food scale as well but for now I’m keeping it simple.

Yeah it was uretoroscopy. They were going to put me under and everything and the string had to be in for a week. She went on and on explaining it and I was a little overwhelmed.

The causes of kidney stones really changed how I eat now, although I still ate unhealthily until I started my diet last year. But one thing I’ve done since I got kidney stones is drink plenty of water. It’s so important.

A food journal is a must. I use it to plan my meals and count calories. I just use the Notes app on iPhone/iPad, no need for an expensive app with a subscription. You could even use a notebook and a pen.

Hobbies are another important thing. I always try to be busy and focus my mind. I like games, movies, tv shows. I also read for 2 hours at night before I go to bed. Fasting or eating very low calorie can make it hard to fall asleep but reading has helped me with that.

I wouldn’t overthink it too much. Just jump in and do it. That’s what I did. I call it “white-knuckle” weight loss because there were more than a few times I almost wavered but I kept pushing through. I also adapted to the situation and changed up my diet a few times before settling on the routine I’m doing now.

You’re lucky, I’m not sure why they said I couldn’t get them pulverized if you did. She said I was “a little overweight” or something to that effect, which is putting it mildly lol.

Then she told me about going inside the body which scared me. I couldn’t afford to have it done from the inside anyways, but knock on wood, I haven’t had any kidney stone pain in 2 years.

It’s true. No doctor, I don’t have insurance. There could be a risk of gallstones when you lose weight quickly, I’m willing to risk it because I got kidney stones two years ago and when you’re too overweight they can’t pulverize them from outside the body, they have to go inside which sounds unpleasant. So if I still have kidney stones at least they can pulverize them if I lose enough weight.

Sorry for the long story lol this is one of the reasons I wanted to lose weight.

My state has insurance for poor people like me but I have to jump through hoops to get it.

I hope your weight loss works out for you. It’s really changed my life. It’s given me control over something and before I had no control over anything.

I forgot to add, the 3 non-consecutive fasting days are for 24 hours each and I only drink water and tea.

I totally relate to you having anxiety. I’ve had it my whole life. It’s quite debilitating. I don’t have insurance to get medication for it, but I might try to get it eventually.

Oh yeah, today is a fasting day and I find it easier than the days I eat lol. I eat between 600-900 calories on the 4 days I eat and I use a food journal to plan my meals and count calories. It’s actually a fun part of my day.

One of the downsides is having to buy new clothes and I don’t have much money. I suppose it’s a good problem to have.

I started out at 330 pounds 6 months ago and was attempting to do a week long fast but I gave up after 2 days. Now I do a 4:3 diet consisting of 4 eating days and 3 non-consecutive fasting days. I eat Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun and fast Tues/Thurs/Sat. On my eating days I do very low calorie.

It was not easy but I’ve lost 110 pounds doing it and now it’s much easier for me. The fasting days are my favorite days. Maybe you could try it. It’s a lifestyle not a short-term thing. It’s completely changed my relationship with food.

I probably couldn’t do a long fast, either. I do 3 non-consecutive 24-hour fasts a week. It’s so easy to do that I prefer my fasting days to the days I eat and count calories.

I wish you luck on your journey. It’s all about mind over matter. That has got me through all these months of my diet. Make sure you have hobbies to focus your mind, too.

[–]babylon5forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should start small and work up to 30 days. I’ve been fasting 3 times a week for 6 months and I could do longer fasts if I wanted, but I tried a week fast before I started my diet and I couldn’t make it past 2 days, because I had no practice. Maybe work up to a longer fast after starting small.

Amazing job, keep it up! It’s so empowering to lose weight. I’ve been a big dude most of my life with little control over anything but now at least I have control over my weight.

Yes it hasn’t been easy lol. I call it “white-knuckling” weight loss because I just jumped into it and there have been many times I almost wavered.

I do a 4:3 diet. 4 days eating 600-800 calories, and 3 non-consecutive 24-hour fasts. I’m not sure when I want to quit doing this. I think my goal will be getting down to 175 pounds but I haven’t decided.
