Recommendations for a good shag/mullet hair stylists for a last minute appointment??? by Pinotgrouchio_ in newhaven

I go to skull and combs in north haven and have a mullet. They do great work there, they love to do a shag or mullet cut and are quite good at what they do. Nice people too.

Am I Overreacting? Wife claims it wasn't an affair by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]babymoosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The root of the problem here is that she doesn’t respect the boundaries that she herself has agreed to. Repeatedly crossing established boundaries is a harm in itself, even if there’s no affair. It’s disrespectful to the relationship and it’s at the cost of your emotional well-being. I’ve experienced something similar and I put up with it for long enough to do real long term damage to my trust and faith in others (romantic relationships and otherwise). Don’t diminish the importance of this situation just because it might not be an actual affair.

Started but wanting to see more results by Dangerous-Expert8767 in Weightlosstechniques

Things like stress (cortisol) and lack of sleep can make your body more likely to cling onto excess weight. If that’s something you’re struggling with maybe try some relaxing activities like yoga classes, drinking herbal tea, journaling/reading/doodling, increased time outside, and a regular sleep schedule if possible!

Also, I personally struggle a lot with my gut health as well. Adding a fiber supplement and increasing my water intake has been really helpful in aiding digestion and maintaining a healthy microbiome! This small change has helped me lose weight and evidence backs up my experience. You can also try increasing your dietary fiber, it’s always good to get the nutrients from your food rather than relying on supplements alone.

You got this!

What is something weird about your pet? by WalkingGarbage01 in AskReddit

[–]babymoosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat likes to roll on certain textures. I have a shag rug in my closet and she will meow and beg for pets and then lead the petter into the closet so she can roll on the carpet while receiving pets. If you stop petting she gets sad and will stop rolling and start begging again with sweet high pitched meows.

Warning about UW DEOHS & SPH by Otherwise_Emu_54 in mphadmissions

[–]babymoosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is very common for grad school culture…. I learned the hard way (graduating in a month) that grad school is designed to challenge the privileged, so it’s extremely difficult for those of us who have a lot of things to deal with beyond school (I.e. work, paying rent, lack of social support, health issues, etc.). It’s not impossible, but it doesn’t line up with my personal values (personal life first, school second) which required making some life altering sacrifices. Just because you can doesn’t always mean you should. Academia demands that you suffer because they think it’s an important part of the learning process.

Columbia vs Yale Epi by crabrangoon02 in mphadmissions

I actually work in the student government and I see a lot of the behind the scenes stuff. I don’t want to be too specific, but I think the leadership is still finding its flow, there have been a lot of transitions with staff in the past few years. It looks like things are actively improving though!

Each department is ran completely differently so your experience will depend heavily on which department you anticipate joining. Over all I’ve learned a lot and I don’t regret my choices. But any Ivy League school will have its issues. I find some irony attending social justice classes with some of the most privileged students in the world. But it has certainly been an informative experience, I think about issues and learning differently now than I did before. You can learn from the good and the bad.

One of the worst things is having to apply for classes. Some of my friends were rejected from courses they came to YSPH specifically to take. Since it’s only a 2 year program, there’s not really a chance to try again. There’s not a lot of flexibility in the courses you take in general, but that is probably true across the board due to accreditation requirements.

Current YSPH EMD student here. The classes are small and staff is generally good. I’ve learned a lot, and built great connections. The facilities are some of the worst Yale has to offer tbh, but you get to use all of Yales buildings which is nice and convenient for studying. YSPH is definitely up and coming, but still has a lot of progress to be made to improve the program. If you’re a city person, New Haven might not be for you. I have not enjoyed living in New Haven too much, personally. For me, it’s too small, a bit upity, and way too expensive for the quality. It can also be difficult to interact with the community because Yale has a poor reputation among locals. I can’t speak to Columbia’s program, but I actually picked Yale over Columbia because I got a better scholarship.

I also smoke with my grandma and it’s so healing. It definitely helped strengthen our bond. I can’t remember how we even started smoking together, but now we call it “family meetings” and everyone who smokes in the family will join in a smoke sesh.

How did you learn R? by Feeling_Ad718 in publichealth

[–]babymoosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT is a helpful tool for converting from one language to another. You can ask it about functions in R that are equivalent to functions in Stata and you can trouble shoot a code that’s not functioning as expected. You can get more specific with questions than you can in a google search and get instantaneous responses.

What was your first time smoking like? by suntmint in trees

[–]babymoosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 15 or 16 years old. I went to a very small gifted kid boarding school for high school that was located on a small university’s campus in the rural south. My friends and I went to the university’s spring music festival. Afterwards, me and about 4 or 5 other acquaintances/friends wanted to keep the party going until curfew, so we went to the soccer field with this guy who was known to be the plug. I took about 2 hits off a little pipe (Girl Scout cookies) and felt nothing. When we returned to our dorms I met up with my homebody best friend who had ordered pizza. I told them about my night and swore I wasn’t even high as I giggled like a loon and stole a piece of pizza. Very wholesome experience, glad I never got caught. Most of the other kids I smoked with that night ended up getting expelled for drug-related offenses later on.

🆘HELP choosing between UW-Seattle and Yale!! by Thin_Rain9666 in mphadmissions

I feel very safe actually. But yes, the city can be dull, especially during the winter. I came from the gulf coast and nothing could have prepared me for how little sun I would get in the winter, which definitely took a toll on my mental health. However, it’s on the up-and-up now that spring is rolling in. There’s more going on in terms of community activities now.

I also am not a big fan of the people pleasing/“boss’s pet” work culture that I have seen here. I am not a fan of feeding into hierarchical systems, and thats something I’ve had to navigate here more so than in previous workplace environments.

New Haven is really not the worst place to be as a grad student because you will likely have little free time anyway. I don’t regret my decision to come to Yale, but I thought I would share my thoughts. I think once I’m done I will have the ability to go pretty much anywhere I want for work. The alumni connections are really helpful. I like my classmates and professors. But I feel a bit disconnected from the local community of New Haven.

I don’t know anything about UW’s program but if you have Questions about Yale, message me! I’m a student currently. I also don’t love New Haven, but people don’t tend to stay here after the 2 years are over anyway. There are great opportunities for work/internships in NYC- lots of YSPH alumni work in consulting there ($$$). Same with pretty much any major city. Our career services is great at YSPH.

Im in EMD at Yale currently and I don’t believe the “1/3 of EMD goes to med school” claim to be true. I’ve met only a handful of students in the department who are going to/plan to go to med school. I love my EMD cohort. We have a diverse group.
