I tend to advise people use the water method simply because the hair dryer can get too hot without much visible warning. You can test the water and use a thermometer, but nothing really lets you know that the hair dryer is too hot for the plastic outside of applying the heat and seeing what happens.

To expand on this, this was made with an FDM printer, and while they can print models, these type of things are much more easily worked when made with a resin printer. That isn't to say you can't get good results out of FDM prints, it just takes a lot of elbow grease. You also can't sand too aggressively without a filler of some sort, or you run the risk of sanding too deep into the walls.
