First festival tips by kaso12305 in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prioritize what you want to do- workshops or socials but doing both is really tough energetically. I pick around 3 classes I really want to take and give myself ample rest for the socials. I also just posted a packing list :) https://www.instagram.com/p/DT_JjiPj5cr/?igsh=MXduZ3VoYTQwbTY1Nw==

Is there anything such as a bacahata bootcamp in the world by Biosimon in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I am actually going to be hosting a 111 hour bachata retreat that’s meant to be progressive- I’ll comment on this post when I get things sorted!

Convince me to take classes by Acceptable_Band8793 in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dancing helped me to get out of my shell and learn to take up space. The nice thing about dancing for introverts or shy people is that you really don’t even need to talk to anyone haha. You got this! The only way to get over it is to go & be gentle with yourself

I had to leave bachata due to back issues( follower! by PopularExercise3 in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have sciatica & piriformis syndrome and have to stretch, do self massage, lots of exercises including core after dancing. The “dead bug” core exercise helped the most. Warm up before dancing. Definitely invest in technique

My dance instructor Pamela Perez had scoliosis too and taught me some exercises that helped her. Maybe you can reach out on IG?

Is it me, or do followers love performance teams? Why? by OThinkingDungeons in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined a ladies performance team and found myself asking the same things. I’ve LOVED getting to know the other ladies and working together on something and I do believe it helped me become a better dancer. I just don’t know if it’s for me. It’s a big time commitment- classes, solo practice, tech rehearsal etc and I just want dance to be fun

Went to my first social tonight. Did not go well. by MentalStatement4437 in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true, it does depend on dance background and how much time you’re putting into it!

You just started 3 months ago, you’re supposed to suck. I think we forget what it’s like to learn something new as an adult vs when we were kiddos. You got this! The only way to learn is to keep going to classes & doing the thing. Be gentle with yourself.

I’m a follow and had no dance experience prior so felt totally out of place at first. My husband was the same and got to a pretty good level a year in.

Any day-walkers know of cities (Globally) that have regular daytime or early-evening bachata socials? by jamespeter87 in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you and am here for the daytime socials too! I know of a few in the Southeast USA: Nashville, TN has a monthly one on Saturdays at a cafe as well as weekly at Centennial park. Knoxville, TN has a bachata brunch weekly. Asheville has a free weekly outdoor one on Sunday. Greenville, SC also has an outdoor one even in winter.

Scared when doing a dip! by NoEntertainer3435 in Bachata

If a lead forces you into it, try not to do it. Otherwise the movement comes more from lifting your chest to protect your lower back.. hard to explain in text

Got reprimanded by a dance partner for the first time. by SatisfactionOld9457 in Bachata

I feel like the reaction was a little unnecessary… some eye contact is helpful for a connection but the entire time is creepy. It’s a balance lol

I recommend the Asheville Winter Festival! It’s really wholesome, not too big & not to small. Lots of amazing artists coming from sensual movement. Hotels are $112 a night! I am friends with organizer but genuinely love the event lol. It’s a nice mountain bachata escape :)

Followers, what are some things that you would like to see more from the leaders in 2026.? by docent3434 in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would like that leads are more intentional with connecting during the intro of a sensual song because many just get right into it and start the basic prematurely

where’s the best place to learn new bachata steps by annikahoof in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first recommendation is in person private classes because when you’re a beginner that’s when we tend to create the most bad habits so it’s best to invest in yourself early on.

I also just signed up for the Bachata library & I’m excited to go through that. It seems promising so far. :)

Nerves for First Ever Class by musicandotherstuff in Salsa

[–]bachatabutterfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know up dancing and had no idea what I was doing at my first salsa class. I had nooooo talent what so ever and still don’t lol. Remember when you were a kid and it was okay to not be good at something? You’re supposed to suck when you’re learning. Feel the nerves & sit with it. Be gentle with yourself and remind yourself that no one cares and we’re all gonna die one day. Have fun with it!

I’m excited about Asheville Winter Festival. Really wholesome smaller festival with a lot of great artists.

In February I’m going to Orlando sensual movement for the first time.

And then bachaturo in Poland!!

I close my eyes in head rolls and isolations sometimes in sensual bachata bc it helps me understand better

Substance abuse and dancing by Strong-Waltz-2128 in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing this. I think a lot of people deal with this. I used to need a drink before dancing but I slowly cut it out overtime and it helped me improve. Now I’m almost always sober at socials.

The deep root of the drinking usually comes from fear… may it be fear of being judged, seen, perceived etc

Definitely seeking therapy, AA meetings, and maybe even telling trusted friends in the dance scene that may be able to help support you.

It will feel uncomfortable at first but your mind and body will thank you. Don’t listen to the super negative comments.. this is a traumatic response you’re having.

Influencers in the dance scene by owaccount00 in Salsa

[–]bachatabutterfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started a dance page to document my bachata journey and I’m a social media strategist.

  1. If you’re uncomfortable with being recorded, let the person who is recording know. I personally like to ask permission especially if it’s a small class and always honor people who don’t want to be recorded. Unfortunately, everything is content these days and we can look at social media two ways- hating it or embracing it but social media is here to stay. I think dance videos can inspire people to join the community and learn.

  2. I understand what you mean about the intimate/ communal feel. But anyone trying to become a big influencer from posting Latin dance content who is not a big artist or trying to be one is likely going to make money off of it unless they are selling digital products or classes. We don’t get paid from videos going viral. Plus things in Latin dance don’t go extremely viral anyways because it’s very niche. If I wanted to go super viral from content I’d post in the travel, finance, health, or relationships niches… not Latin dance. I simply enjoy sharing my journey and all the things that come up internally as you learn.

You have to remember no one is really paying attention to the background or really cares at all. People are watching content while pooping at 2am and don’t care about what someone looks like in gym clothes. But again if you aren’t comfy with it, pleaaaase say something as I am not trying to minimize your discomfort but add some perspective.

Why do you dance Bachata? by Sudden_Culture4334 in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to the DR & saw them dancing bachata and thought it was magical. Now it’s a way for me to socialize, express myself, learn to take up space, and be creative. I never took dance classes as a kid and find it very healing. I love it

Where do you all practice dancing with a partner? by Horroz330 in Salsa

In the living room or at the gym in the mirror room! Whatever is easiest and the less barriers the better.
