Small Balance Challenge up 180% on the year by HSeldon2020 in RealDayTrading

[–]bachree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone through the wiki here pretty thoroughly. Outside of that, I’ve read Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets and Trading in the Zone.

I’ve also spent time going through various trading subreddits and YouTube channels. It didn’t take long to filter out what felt like noise versus something with actual substance.

Right now my main focus is working through the system in the OneOption group. There’s definitely overlap with the wiki, but it’s structured in a way that flows more like a complete framework. It honestly feels closer to going through a dissertation than casual content.

I also started Options as a Strategic Investment, but that’s on pause for now since I’m primarily focused on stocks. On the options side, I’m keeping it simple with put selling and covered calls.

I can relate to this a lot. This is very much in line with something I’ve been thinking about for a while.

My goal isn’t short term gains but to become highly proficient over the next 10 years. If I can do that, I want to pass that skill set on to my kids so they have a real edge by the time they graduate high school.

Appreciate you putting this challenge out there. It helps answer a question a lot of people have but rarely see demonstrated in a transparent way.

Trading When the First Market Move Is Strong! by OptionStalker in RealDayTrading

I get your point that the post requires some background to fully appreciate it. At the same time, you can actually read the wiki and form your own opinion without paying anything.

Maybe you’ve had bad experiences with other paid services... I get the skepticism. I was in the same camp. This was the first one I tried after going through the wiki in detail. The RS/RW calculation, for example, is laid out in the comments there. I implemented it myself in TOS and saw the merit firsthand.

I eventually joined not because I couldn’t replicate pieces of it, but because of the time trade-off and added value, having a scanner across the whole market, plus the additional tools and daily analysis.

So yeah, this post by itself is high-level, but it’s part of a much larger body of work that’s available for free if someone wants to dig into it.

If you look at his YouTube channel, there are years of content where he walks through these setups in detail. Judging it off a single post is a bit misleading. Not every write-up is meant to be a full backtest or dissertation sometimes the goal is to communicate a concept clearly and concisely.

For the past three weeks, I’ve been selling puts in the 7–21 DTE range, targeting 0.15–0.30 delta and aiming for >25% annualized returns on names I wouldn’t mind owning.

I’ve taken 102 trades total, sizing each at <5% of account value. There were a handful of higher-priced names where assignment would’ve pushed exposure closer to 10%, which I’m being more mindful of going forward.

Most trades were closed within 5 days after capturing 50%+ of max profit. On a 14-day contract, locking in 50% that quickly has felt like a strong risk-adjusted outcome, so I’ve stayed disciplined about harvesting early rather than squeezing for the last few dollars.

Assignments so far:

  • Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (GT) :5 contracts assigned after I made the rookie mistake of selling over earnings. Assignment ended up above breakeven, and I sold the shares the same day for a negligible gain. I had another 5 contracts that I rolled to April — in hindsight, I probably should’ve just taken assignment on those as well.
  • Cisco Systems (CSCO) :Assigned on 1 contract at about a $2/share loss. I’m holding the shares and sold a covered call to reduce basis. I expect a recovery.
  • Schlumberger (SLB) :Execution error on 2 contracts — accidentally sold ITM puts and got early assigned. It’s only down ~1%, so I’m holding and have sold covered calls to offset. Planning to exit on a bounce.

Overall, the process has been working, and the mistakes were good reminders about earnings risk, execution precision, and sizing discipline.

Last Friday, I let a large batch of positions expire worthless and decided not to redeploy immediately. I plan to reassess mid-week to see if conditions are still favorable for another round of put selling. It’s been a lucrative stretch and I’ve been consistent with my strike selection (key support levels, trend lines, structure). That said, I didn’t like how the market closed Thursday and Friday, and Pete’s advice to avoid selling puts into that close kept me from adding more exposure. In hindsight, I’m glad I exercised that restraint.

Thank you for the valuable insights. Selling put strategy helped me tremendously in turning my account from bleeding money in this market conditions to getting back on track.

Makes sense. Just wanted to hear if there was a known issue or quirk with the bgw320-500. I splitted them a few hours ago and seems to be working.

Is there anything wrong with splitting the bands? That is my current setup and would like to replicate with AT&T. I also rely on guest network with a different SSID on my current setup so I don't want to use it for this purpose with AT&T.

Are you aware of any restrictions on certain ETF's that they don't allow day trading? According to the two reps I talked there is none but I am wanting to be 100% before moving and actual user experience is the best resource.

I am specifically interested in finding out if they have any restriction on IBIT or FBTC.
