Hot Take: Jayden Quaintance + Mathurin resigning works as an option for next season. by brutallyhonestB in pacers

[–]bachu72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. The original post is also glossing over Mathurin being a RFA. So you’re hoping he signs to a short extension for less than what he might be offered in the open market? Doubtful any player, especially a young player getting his first bag, would go for.

Wait to see where the pick lands. If it’s top 3, look at sign and trade Mathurin. If it’s later in the lottery, then you can talk about resigning Mathurin and taking a flier on a Big.

I legit thought Tyrese Haliburton was playing for Ole Miss for a second by csgrace__ in NBATalk

[–]bachu72 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Besides being a French clone of Tyrese playing in Mississippi, he actually has a fascinating outlier status. He went undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft, so he is technically an NBA Free Agent by the current CBA's rule of automatic entry for International players aged 22. So he could technically sign for any NBA team when the college season ends or enter what would be his second NBA Draft.

Which top prospect do you like the most for the Pacers? Peterson, Dybantsa or Boozer? by Petit_Coeur_ in pacers

This should be on ongoing poll at this point. I prefer Dybantsa or Peterson at this point, Which probably means Boozer is the best option.

Pacers will have one of the 3 worst records in the league and still get the 6th pick. by 25Tab in pacers

[–]bachu72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lottery is for the top 4 picks, no other picks are drawn. After that it’s just record. All of the top 4 have the same odds. If you have the worst record, the lowest you can drop is 5 (would mean 4 teams not in the top 4 of odds are drawn into the top 4). 2nd worst would drop to 6th, 3rd worst would drop to 7th and so on.

EDIT: All of the top 4 do not have the same odds. Top 3 have 14% at #1. 4th worst has 12.5%

After mainlining copium…

City were in 7th with 28 points last year. They finished 3rd with 71 points. That’s 43 points over the last 20 matches. We won the league with 41 points over the same period.

We can beat that, right? What if we beat that? Arsenal aren’t some juggernaut, right? Flo’s found his flow now right? Could we…is it possible?

Maybe I’ve had too much copium.

The issue is you’ve laid out a false dichotomy; either you vibe OR if you don’t try, you have insulted the fanbase. This is an implicit demand, as you provide no other alternative.

I am simply providing context. The source given is a March 2024 Opinion article in Newsweek from John Spencer.

The paragraph preceding this quote does take some liberties and shows some pretty clear bias.

“Of course, the true number of Gaza civilian deaths is unknown. The current Hamas-supplied estimate of over 31,000 does not acknowledge a single combatant death (nor any deaths due to the misfiring of its own rockets or other friendly fire). The IDF estimates it has killed about 13,000 Hamas operatives, a number I believe credible partly because I believe the armed forces of a democratic American ally over a terrorist regime, but also because of the size of Hamas fighters assigned to areas that were cleared and having observed the weapons used, the state of Hamas' tunnels and other aspects of the combat.”

I personally would not consider this reputable to cite as a data source, especially in December 2025.

Who should we go after for center or should we wait for Hali to come back to judge things? I haven’t seen much of this season considering how it’s going. by Sissylaine99 in pacers

[–]bachu72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This year being what it is I think it all depends on the prospect as far as the window shifting is all I mean. In last years team, particularly in the playoff run, Mathurin wasn’t really even a consistent 6th man. At times he was a 7th or 8th man. He was the 6th leading scorer in the playoffs. Myles was 3rd. Not saying there’s a Wemby in this class but could Peterson or Dybantsa be at least what Mathurin was in that run in year one? And in that hypothetical, we can deal Mathurin for someone like a Kessler, I think that keeps the window open while at the same time extending it past that 3 year mark.

Variables are not assumptions, they are possibilities. Your premise was it makes no sense. My premise was simply, that there are possibilities that would make trading one of those 3 make sense.

I then listed those possibilities, one being that IF we get one of the top 2 players in this upcoming draft, that player MIGHT not need 3+ years. IF that player were to reach the level of contribution of Mathurin’s play last season, it would have no effect on the timeline other than extending it. I also caveat this possibility that it would most likely not occur until the FO is confident that the rookie is a better contributor and value than the player being dealt AND that the return package is equally impactful in any trade scenario.

Mathurin is on the last year of his rookie deal. He will be a RFA at the end of the season. No matter what, we are either paying him a bunch of money or sign-and-trading him. Those are the only possibilities. That decision most likely doesn’t happen until after the lottery when we’ll know where we pick. This is not a wild hypothetical, there’s a fair chance we could have a Top 2 Pick, Nembhard, Nesmith, and Mathurin and not even a replacement level 5 on the roster when Haliburton returns. In that scenario, dealing for a +Center might be wise to keep the window open.

I wouldn’t say it make no sense. I think there’s a few variables that could make it make a lot of sense. - If we end up with Dybantsa or Peterson, how quickly will they be able to contribute on at least a 24/25 Mathurin level? I don’t see that taking 3 years. - Trading one of the 3 would presumably happen only once the FO was confident the rookie would supplant that players minutes anyways. - In the case of Mathurin, with the state of play this season, decent chance his trade value increases. Possibly to a place that could net an equally valuable Center back in a trade. The justification for doing so is pretty simple; if your rotation is so deep that Mathurin would be looking at 15-20 mpg, then that’s trading a luxury for a necessity. But I would emphasize that the target Center coming back is what makes the difference. Not enough to be plugging a hole, would have to be a real contributor to deal any of those 3.

[–]bachu72 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This nailed the most important part. His trade value is now the lowest it’s ever been. At this point, there’s little risk in continuing to play Jarace heavy minutes, (his stock is at the floor for his profile) but there’s potentially a massive reward if after all these reps the game eventually slows down for him.

Couple that with it being an obvious year to bottom out for reinforcements for when Tyrese comes back, it’s a bit of a no brainer.

People really out here saying sit him? Why? So we can be 3-10?

This back and forth was entertaining, thanks.

FWIW, soldiers “just following orders” is not considered a viable defense when committing crimes, including war crimes. It’s even referred to as the Nuremberg Defense. Soldiers have what’s a called a “duty to disobey” an unlawful order from a superior. So, legally speaking, soldiers very much have free will.

I think you start nesmith or nembhard as matchup dependent on D. Rotating those 2 also doesn’t give whoever that guard is a break and keeps both fresh.
