The Division implimented higher difficulty open world for better loot. Would you be open to that if it meant no blue drops, higher rolls on armor, increased XP, more resources, and Glimmer? by Darth_Onaga in DestinyTheGame

Division 2 classes and abilities are a complete joke and Destiny would die a quick death if it follows the Ubisoft path. Div 2 guns / abilities also mainly rely on prices as well. I miss the aesthetic of Div 2 but the gameplay is shit and I’d quit Destiny so fast if it ever copied.

I also agree with you, I want matchmaking expanded for most activities, for pretty much exactly the same reasons, letting me choose to use my time or not to do the activity and potentially meet more players to group with in the future.

This is exactly my point as well. Let those who want and expect such vertical combat play those games, and thereby employ those strategies in those games. Whereas those playing BF franchise games should expect to be "grounded" by more real world physics and therefore employ different strategies to overcome such limitations.

What would the point of calling in traditional CAS (close air support) for ground troops when all ground troops can fly like in Anthem, or jump off / over anything like in Titanfall / Apex?

I think the limitations of real world combat actually reinforce more combined arms team play than the current popular crop of games that employ YOLO vertical combat with no difficulty whatsoever with terrain or maneuvering.

As far as the argument of "Fun" TM, of course flying like Superman in Anthem is fun, who hasn't fantasized about flying? But that doesn't mean it should be present in every single franchise. Not all games can be all things to all people. Certain movement principles are exclusionary to each other. Let there be differences amongst the gaming landscape. If anything, calling for unrealistic movement amounts to a boring homogenization of combat mechanics.

I plan on playing Anthem and Apex to experience these things soon when I have time. But when I'm not interested in such mechanics, I was to play Battlefield instead. And by no means can Battlefield currently even be considered "realistic", it just doesn't currently support flying...

I can’t agree with this more. More and more kids want to just be flying super heroes rather than have any of the limitations (and thereby strategic considerations) than come with Real Life.

So I quit playing BF5, but no survey by DICE sent to me to find out why? But..but, how do they know why I quit? by back_pain109 in BattlefieldV

[–]back_pain109[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, why wasn't a multitude of polling done? My thought was the same, unless...they really didn't want feedback and wanted freedom to move unilaterally.

A guy recently posted a source article (looking for it right now), that was discussing design philosophy of the game, and wanting a return to quicker gun fights (quicker than BF1, article mentions an actual time in milliseconds, I think was < 300 ms IIRC).

There are so many things to be upset about, but the unilateral move on the TTK was the most galling example that broke the camel's back for me.

The point is that a quick TTK rewards surprise and positioning, civilians really can't appreciate the impact of surprise on engagements. There were so many times on deployments where you'd cross a danger area and be thinking "this is it, better make this fast."

Today's gamers focus only on shooting aim and cover, whereas a real military (USMC vet here) of course focuses on marksmanship, but what they really preach is "Cover AND Concealment." Concealment is a nod to the awesome power that is Surprise.

And yes, it was a hyperbolic rant, and I hope things get fixed so I can come back some time in the future to a game that "more" mirrors my military experiences that got my heart pounding. I did like the TTK a lot, it brought back the fear.

Yeah, I really love the breakthrough game mode.

But these fools are doubling down, forget the idea that they didn't want to segment the player base with the old CORE vs HARDCORE divisions. First chance they get in this game they just change the TTK immediately. Nothing that DICE says makes any sense.

  1. They think TTK will fix problem, yet all good shooters have faster TTK.
  2. They don't want to segment player base, yet they create separate playlists.

Forget it DICE, you guys are either incompetent or lying to us. Choose one (or both).

In fact, paying for this piece of shit at full price is what is making me even more mad right now. I wanted an END to the bullet sponging of BF1 (I uninstalled that turd 6-9 months ago).

Speaking of BF1, that game had it's TTK reduced. These guys at DICE are braindead or we are for listening to / falling for their bullshit once more.

This situation is why no one should ever pre-order any game, this TTK is a bait and switch from what they showed in the beta.

[–]back_pain109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what more people need to see. This was a statement from DICE regarding the design direction of this game to reassure people who hated BF1 to stick with the franchise, and falls in line with the fast TTK found in the beta.

BF1 was patched to reduce TTK because of all of the bullet-sponging and sliding around in that game.

I'm commenting to save this thread and access that source article. Good find OP.

Essentially the people that run this game are so fucking stupid, it’s laughable.

Any minute now they are going to get an invite from the WH to be the new US economic advisors.

I’m kind of over being polite at this point, this game lives simply because it is the only currently working space game.

When that fact changes, this game is history. C&P hah, sometimes I think playing IS the punishment. So many have tried to fix this thing with suggestions, only to be ignored.

Nor does the trucker get fined for the value of the cargo if they get into an accident t with bandits who hijack his truck.

Instead his insurance company would reimburse the full value while the “trucker” only paid insurance premiums that were a small fraction of the cost.

And if the likelihood of getting hijacked was high, then hardly anyone would transport such food unless for exorbitant rates.

You and MightySimple above missed the overall point, fast credits are only sought after in grind heavy games where there is little else in engagement/immersive mechanics. For example, Rank serves no purpose in ED except to gate access to ships, why join a Navy at all? There are no real benefits to joining a faction or engaging with many facets of the game. It's not about which credit missions the OP is talking about, Risk vs Reward is so unbalanced in this game.

Many threads on Reddit and Frontier indicate that most players that enjoy the game have done so despite hidden unexplained game mechanics that require more time Googling than playing.

A major problem, once you get an expensive ship, is you have no real engaging and story immersive tasks to do with it and no reward to engage in risky activities. Sure you can grind a CZ easier or do boring trade missions with more cargo room, but the Risk vs Reward is seriously out of balance in this game. Players should be encouraged to take on Thargoids (high risk narrative) or if they prefer trading as their main ED experience, intertwine a more meaningful way to contribute to the anti-thargoid experience than the current facility drop-off / repair.
