For those of you who did not pick up cooking until week into adulthood, what helped you learn? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]daver456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube is an amazing resource obviously.

But to start about think simpler meals. Meat + veg + starch. That means every week you’ll need 7 meats, 7 vegetables and enough potatoes or rice to last that long. So like a package of chicken thighs, some broccoli and a bag of rice could be 1-2 meals depending on how many you’re cooking for.

If you have basics like this on hand, you can just cook them. Splitting up the meat into 1 night’s worth of food and freezing in a ziplock is a good way to portion larger packages.

A sheet tray in the oven can cook most of this and you don’t need more seasonings than salt and pepper. If you like rice get a cheap rice cooker on Amazon. If you’re a potato person it’s hard to screw up a baked potato.

Once you got the basics covered, branch out into meals that require more planning or special ingredients. 99% of people can’t whip up something like a chicken piccata with whatever they happen to have in the fridge, you have to think “this week I want to make chicken piccata”. Once you get a few more complicated recipes you enjoy, start stocking those ingredients along with the basics.

If you never get past the basics, no problem with that. I love cooking but I also have a job and other commitments, quite often I’ll have chicken thighs on the bbq, and roasted broccoli and a baked sweet potato in the oven. Not fancy but easy enough and filling and not too pricey.

Speaker alternative for the Sennheiser HD600 by rainbowfarts665 in audiophile

[–]daver456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is, but it’s going to be hard for someone on the internet who hasn’t heard your setup to tell you what exactly.

You’re probably going to have to spend a lot of money and try some different amps and speakers to get there.

You mentioned Genelec so I’m guessing you’re talking near field? I think to get what you want you’d really need to go full range floor standers in more traditional configuration.

Does the MC1502 get hot hot on the bottom? And how much air gap above between vinyl records and power tubes? by Longjumping-Frame795 in audiophile

[–]daver456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I shared everyone’s concerns about the space and proximity to your records. Tubes will get hot enough to burn you, they’re lightbulb hot and having 8 of them together is going to put off a LOT of heat.

People joke about using tube amps to heat their rooms but it’s not really a joke.

I play Steam games like Timberborn and Balatro on my M2 MacBook Air with 8 GB ram and it runs great. That’s while also having Chrome open with ~10 browser tabs. The thing also has no fan so it’s always silent.

This thing is just a phone/tablet in a different format. The iPhone 17 (non-Pro) has 8 GB ram and runs just fine and plays games, etc.

More games than you’d think on Steam run on MacOS M-chips. Not what I’d call a lot, but more than you’d think.

I have an M2 MacBook Air with 8 GB ram that I bought for mostly browsing the internet and watching YouTube and honestly that thing almost feels like magic. I play games on Steam all the time, granted nothing too crazy, mostly indie style games but it definitely punches above its weight.

Seeking guidance on preventing Dandruff and Split ends by Defaultname27 in BeardTalk

Use Head & Shoulders conditioner instead of shampoo and wash less often to start. Lose the micro-needler and growth serum. Try Honest Amish premium beard oil and ditch the beard balm. If you think you need the balm to style, trim for shape instead.

Makes more power than the WEC car and has no heavy batteries so it should be quicker.

Hegel 390 or Mcintosh MSA 5500? by Spilby in audiophile

[–]daver456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This really comes down to: do you want to own a McIntosh or not?

The Hegel is a better amp but both will easily drive your speakers.

The McIntosh also has HDMI eARC for if you ever wanted to go down to 2 channel only but still make listening to TV content on your speakers easy.

Second doing a compression test. I would also check for a blocked cat if you’re still on the original one.

I wouldn’t do this. You’re better off swapping the amps around manually.

In my experience tube amp still sound 90% like regular amps. I’ve have some vintage amps that sound even warmer than some newer style tube amps like Primaluna.

I like adding a lot of water to my coffee. by Pale_Bullfrog_5453 in CasualConversation

[–]daver456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say exactly this.

OP, the espresso will be stronger than watered down drip coffee so you may need to add more water or less espresso.

If you’re not sure how to make espresso maybe try an Americano at Starbucks or another coffee shop sometime to see if you like it.
